She lights a cigarette, hands shaking like the way the air trembles after long organ notes. She is painting herself, like how girls are supposed to be: smiles and dead eyes, constantly dieting, always so sad about something she will never figure out. This, she is told, is so pretty. So fascinating. She wakes up every morning and wonders which bridges she's going to burn this time. It's not cute, it's killing her. She's caught up in a boy's fingers as if he was a fishing net. The worst part of being in love is knowing it's something you are going to regret. She blows smoke rings and wishes they were nooses. She has done everything they told her and still doesn't feel beautiful.

Rafe Cameron never thought he could fall in love. The mere thought of romance never even crossed his mind, as he brought girl after girl to his room, devouring them night after night, until all that was left were the broken pieces of a feline, porcelain skin tainted with the gloss of a heartbreak, splattered across the floor like blood leaking from angelic wounds.
Because Rafe Cameron simply ruined people. A domestic type of rage, hereditary if the boy dared to call it. And the Cameron son carried a sense of egotistical pride, staring at his father with eyes of wonder, longing to impress the man he had idolized all his life. All while the thought of a rebel lingered in the back of his twisted mind, her tongue dancing with cigarette smoke that smelled of mayhem, and lips as sweet as the peach flavored crystalline candy she stashed in her back pocket. Crimson lipstick marks and love bites littered along his neck, like a noose too tight to escape from.
Farah Carmine was a hurricane. Any Kook's personal nightmare. Her siren eyes and alluring voice kept one too many in a chokehold, until their veins protruded against their skin, heartbeat echoing in their skulls. Her appearance that day on the boat did not go unnoticed, her bronzed skin gleaming of an ineffably pretty goddess, like stale memories of a bonfire, only appearing in unconscious dreams. Her honeyed lips and lustful melody, strung a melodrama of lies, like the pearls adorning her saint-like neck.
She found an infinite peace in the experience of fulfilling the American Dream. And adventures of meeting the Pogues, to helping them retrieve the Cross of Santo Domingo (an unsuccessful attempt) was enough to make her adrenaline rush and blood simmer in the heat of the cosmic chaos. Because in Pougelandia, there was a certain collective heartbeat, drumming like the rhythm of an ethereal symphony.
