Got no ideas left, so I just went with obsessive Patrick star
If Patrick was an obsessive friend
Like, imagine a story where spongebob is just a cheerful bartender at an old bar
And in this story, Patrick is a college dropout who constantly frequents the bar to spew out all of his issues to spongebob and about how unbearable his parents are
So this like goes on for 5 months until another regular at the bar gets annoyed with Patrick's constant venting and tells him to shut up
And then Patrick grabs the guy's drink and smashes it over his head, pushes him down, and just starts punching him until he's pulled off by 3 other dudes and while he was being dragged off he looked at spongebob to plead that he wasn't at fault, but only saw fear
He felt betrayed
Betrayed that his only "friend" wouldn't protect him
So he goes off willingly
2 months have passed and spongebob still remembers what happened, fewer people come to the bar now, and Mr krabs isn't getting any more generous with his pay
It was a tiring evening, it was time for him to end his shift
So he leaves his uniform, grabs his keys, and heads home
Not knowing his "best friend" is following close by
