__Deacon POV__
The first day was just us spending time putting away what belongings we brought with us, then that night we took out the nearby horde that would have caused us problems if we left it alone. I set up some traps around the house and surrounding areas for some food. the rest of the night was quiet and me and Erin just stayed in and layed around close to the fireplace.
The next day I woke up early to go check the traps and when I came back Erin was in the shower humming an unknown tune to herself, a small smile crept in as I listened to her while I started breakfast. I heard the water shut off just as I placed the slices of meat into a pan, I then pulled out a lighter and lit the stove. The meat is from a rabbit that got stuck in one of our traps, I even found some edible berries.
Erin comes out of the bathroom wearing nothing but a towel, when she sees me, she stops "I forgot my clothes" she says as her cheeks brightened. I glance over at her and look her up and down before putting on a smirk and humming at her "uhuh" she scoffs "what I did, I swear" she tries to hold back a smile but it breaks through. I just continue to smirk as she skitters to the dresser where some of her clothes are kept. Once she has them, she places them on the bed and looks around like she's looking for something before huffing and picking her clothes back up, and heading back toward the bathroom. "What?"
she shrugs "nothing, I just think that we should put up like a curtain or something so we can have some separation of the bedroom and the rest of the house." I flip the meat "yeah we could do that, later we could go out and check the other houses for a rod and curtains then when we go back to the camp, I'll see about borrowing a drill or something."
"Sounds good. ok, I'll be out in a minute" I nodded at her and continued cooking the rabbit. A few more minutes later and the meat is done and Erin comes out of the bathroom, she's dressed in her usual tank top and cargo pants "we'll have to find you some warmer clothes, the weather is starting to change." She looks down at herself before huffing and nodding her head "yeah, that would probably be a good idea."
She takes a seat at the small table as I place our plates down before grabbing the bowl of berries and sitting down across from her. We eat in comfortable silence and when we're done Erin volunteers to clean up a bit while I hop into the shower. I turn the water on and move it in the direction of hot, and once it's ready and my clothes are off, I hop under the running water.
I purposefully left the door open a creak so I could still talk to Erin "hey, what was the song you were humming?" I hear her distant voice " I don't know, my mom used to hum it to me when I was little. it used to help me sleep."
"Tell me about her, you've only ever told me that she died but you haven't mentioned her much" there's a pause before her voice sounds, she's closer to the door now so her voice is louder "she was one of the most kind-hearted person I have ever met, I often wondered why she settled for someone like my father. They were so different from each other. I remember that she was beautiful and lit up a room with nothing more than her very presents. Everyone who knew her loved being around her, everyone except my father. I knew he loved her at some point but over the years that love viably dissipated. he grieved when she died but I think it was because he lost something that he could use in a horrible way and would never have to worry about it leaving."
"She sounds like she loved you very much, I would have loved to meet her. your father on the other hand- he better hope I never meet him." there's silence before a small sniffle echos through the cracked door. I shut off the water and dried off a bit before wrapping the towel around my waist. When I open the door fully Erin is sitting on the floor with her knees up to her chest and her back to the side wall. When I approach her, I slightly bend down and touch her crossed arms. She looks up at me with red puffy eyes and wet teary streaks down her face. "She would have loved to meet you too. my father would have probably shot you if I ever brought you around the house."
