NOTE:

1. When a sentence is written in italics with quotation marks at the beginning and end of the sentence then it means it has been signed rather than said out loud.

E.g. "Are you sure?"

2. When a sentence is written in italics with single quotation marks at the beginning and end of the sentence then it means it has been written or typed on phone.

E.g. 'Are you sure?'

3. When a sentence is written in italics with no quotation marks at the beginning or end of the sentence then it means it is an internal thought.

E.g. He doesn't know anything.

****The first two points will be required frequently since our fl is mute and communicates through sign language or by typing or writing out her words.

I led Felicity to her room before leaving the corridor and going to my room. Taking a seat on my bed, I immediately pulled out my phone from the pocket of my slacks and dialed my mom's number. I waited as for mom to pick up, mentally reminding myself to get a check on the progress of dinner myself after finishing my call with mom.

The call got cut as mom didn't pick up. I sighed knowing I'll have to call the person I've been wanting to avoid having this conversation with. Debating for a second, I decided to just get on with it and tapped on Lorenzo's contact. On the third ring, he picked up.

"Christopher."

That's the way he is. No hello or hi, just straight to the point.

"Lorenzo, hey. Is mom with you? I tried calling her but she didn't pick up," I asked, standing up and pacing around the room.

"She went to the washroom with Abigail. She left her purse and phone on the table. You know your mom, it's probably on silent because I haven't heard it ring."

"Well, I wanted to ask when you guys are coming home."

"It will be a while, we're getting dinner after this," he informed me, his voice deep and gruff.

"You're going for dinner?" I was taken aback, "But Felicity and Emma have already arrived. Hasn't Juan or Bob told you yet?"

"Nothing happens in that house with my knowledge, Christopher, you know that," his tone suddenly took a chilling turn, "I don't owe you any explanation but since you're family, I'll give you one. I've been informed about their arrival. However, my plan with my daughter and my wife will not be hampered due to the arrival of my ex wife and her daughter. So, we won't be having dinner home, you can tell them that if you want."

With that, he cut the call.

I sighed, knowing not to feel offended at his words. Both the points I mentioned are sensitive topic for him. Whenever these things are brought up, he gets defensive, closed off. He snaps because that's better than showing the vulnerability that those topics bring him.
