Alaia means joy, that's how she was named. But for her was ironic because of the way that she lost her joy. Her joy had gone when she found out that there were monsters of the night. Vampires that fed and killed. Alaia had the motto since she was little to protect the pure of heart but also to protect her loved ones and seeing her best friend being 'killed' by a vampire changed her life and her outlook on life forever.

Alaia and her little son moved to Mystic Falls. Alaia was going to take revenge. She will have her sweet revenge but she didn't think about the consequences of it. Just one bite on her neck was enough for her plans to change again and fall in love with Stefan Salvatore, it was a consequence of her revenge. It was the only good consequence of it if she was asked.
