Where does my story start...

Aspen Clayfield was a kook by birthright, her father John Clayfield owned majority of the island with his business and best friend Ward Cameron. During her childhood, Aspen was the perfect kook child. Her and Sarah ran around each others yards causing chaos. She had the perfect family, her dad and Ward worked hard but remained as perfect fathers and her mother she was the most angelic human. Aspen grew up with the Camerons' just as they grew up with her. She experienced the loss of their mother, they experienced the disappearance of her own. Aspen's mother left in the night three years ago, two days after her 14th birthday. That year was the demise of Kook aspen and pogue aspen was born.

It all started with JJ, on a rainy afternoon. She sat on the beach, drenched from the rain. Her mind focused on the absence of her mother, blaming herself. Her surfboard sat next to her, contemplating whether she should venture into the rough to clear her mind. From afar JJ could see the kook girl, he knew exactly who it was. The princess herself, the perfect kook. However against his better judgement he proceeded forward, a surfboard tucked neatly under his arm.

"I never thought I would see the Kook princess, on a day like this, surf the break" JJ joked behind her. Startling her, she quickly attempted to pull herself together. Upon seeing the state of the girl, JJ no longer saw the kook princess rather just a person hurting, something he was all too familiar about. A soft bruise decorated his face under his eye, left by his father.

"If you are just here to mock me, please can it wait for another day" She rasp out, her voice abandoning her. However, JJ simply sat down, "All differences aside, I am here for you as a friend if you need to talk otherwise I stand by your side and hit that break to forget about it all." He stated sympathetically.

From that day on, JJ and Aspen were two peas in a pod and slowly rest of the pogues came around.

Present - 3 years forward - First POV

"Aspen, wake up you lazy bum. You have work!" John B yelled down the hallway. JJ, John B and myself had stayed at the chaetae to weather hurricane Agatha together.

"You could always blow off work, come fishing with us. Everyone knows its the best a day after a hurricane." JJ's voice sang from the front.

"Your a terrible influence JJ, I need to go to work, I am saving for college to get as far as I can away from my father." I answer. walking down to meet them in the kitchen/loungeroom, after getting dressed in my uniform.

"Ugh, why do you have to be so responsible, live a little" A cheeky grin was plastered on his face. I walked up pinched his cheek, "Aw, are you going miss me, don't worry i promise to grace you with my presence as soon as I am finished!".

Giving me a light shove, "fine go serve those stupid kooks. Its ridiculous that the country club is even open on a day like today, must be nice to have generators." He slightly fumed.

"Don't worry I will make sure to throw displeased look as much as I can just for you." i smiled back. "Don't get into too much trouble. See you in a bit!" I shouted back, as i walked out, attempting to walk through the debris toward my jeep that had a tarp tided onto it. I carefully lifted the tarp hoping no damage was done during the storm. She looked alright a few stick and leaves scattered around the front. I had saved for the past two years to purchase her, she was 2000 jeep, second hand however she was the best thing I had ever purchased. Driving through the cut into figure 8 you could see the clear division of money, the cut had no power, figure 8 looked as though it had barely been touched.

Quickly, parking and going into the club, I clocked in, ready to start my shift as a waitress/bartender. I hoped it was going be a quite day considering most people should be dealing with the after effects of Agatha.

"Hello Aspen, such a lovely day for the richies isn't it" Stewart, the chef, chirped through from the kitchen. We had worked together for the past 2 years forming a bond.

"Oh, you know it stewy" i smiled back. Setting up the tills, the tables and organising the alcohol behind the bar. The day progressed slowly, people came through in waves, however it was definitely a slower day than normal. I watched the clock closely, only an hour left till i get out of here. I heard his distinct voice pierce my ears, the king himself. Rafe Cameron, Topper Thornton and Kelce walked in to the bar, placing themselves at their usual table. Those pests, ugh can they not go home, I thought. Taking a breathe, I moved over to them. "What can I get for you today?" I stated simply, trying to limit as much interaction as I could.

"what, no pleasantries today, how rude" Rafe smirked.

"Come on Aspen, we're your favourite customers" Topper added.

"Are you planning to get anything, because if not, I have other things to do" I sassed back. without realising Rafe reached out grabbing my waist pulling me towards him.

"Oh little one, were old friends. I am sure you can remember to be a little nicer to your old friend" He stated a double meaning clearly evident in words.

Rafe and I had grown up together. Although I am the same age as Sarah, I was at Tannyhill every day practically and so Rafe and I were close. He was my first crush, he was my first kiss and my first heartbreak.

"Rafe get off me, right now or I will call security!" I fumed down. His hand tightened on my waist. He let out a chuckle before dropping his hand.

"No need for the hostility, I will grab a beer and some fries."

"I will grab the same" Topper chimmed in

"Me too" Kelce followed.

I took this as my chance to move away from them. quickly arranging them their drinks and chips. I served them and proceeded to do anything i could that was as far as i could get from them.

"We will be seeing you around, Aspen" Rafe called before they left. A sigh of relief released from my lips.

The rest of my shift, was quick. I closed as fast as I possibly could before heading out saying by to stewy.

As I drove back down towards John B's the sky was the most perfect array of colors as the sunset was setting. However, my mind was plagued by Rafe's actions today. He has not been that forward for a long time. Sure he would also shit stir due to his stupid hatred toward Pogues but today felt different, personal if you will.
