"Don't move." The person said. It sounded like a man. A young man. More like a young adult. The voice was deep and soothing. It sounded wonderful. For a moment, my worries went away. "Now, who are you?" The velvety voice commanded. He took his hand off my mouth too talk. My chin was pressed against the dirt, making it hard too.
"Who are you?" I grinned. My face was red and hot. I didn't realize how stupid I sounded until he punched my back. "Ow! All I asked was for your name! Sheesh! You're the one who tackled me out of the blue! If anyone deserves an explanation, it's me!" I snapped. That was enough for him to release me. I sprung up and turned to face the stranger. Oh. My. Gosh. He was stunning! He had dark hair, like me, that slightly covered his eyes- which were narrowed. We seemed to have shared glances with each other. His amber eyes melted my heart that just wouldn't stay still. He was about three inches taller than me.
We both blushed and looked down. The silence seemed to last forever when he finally said, "I'm sorry for my rudeness..." My heart skipped a beat. His voice was so smooth. My hair was matted and all over the place. I could feel the dirt grains in my hair. I tried to shake some of it out in embarrassment.
"Apology accepted." I said, "let's just start over." He stood there soaking in my response. There was another long pause. When was he going to speak?
"Okay, my name is Adrean" He said "and I'm a solder in training for an organization. So, I'm still learning about some of the basic moves." He did a karate chop in the air. I snorted.
"Is that what you call a basic move? Your funny! Watch this..." I grabbed his arm and flung him backwards into a lake. I winced. "I hope the water was shallow..." I muttered as I started to make my way towards the water. I bent down and peered into the water. Before I could make anything out, he snatched me down under with him. I laughed and pulled him out from the water. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, you're not like other girls, are you? He spoke.
"Nope..." I admitted. "And you're a normal jock who plays football?"
He laughed at my impression. "Football sucks! I like tennis."
"Same! Tennis is amazing! I used to play it all the time with...My...Sister. There was a terrible attack on-"
"The attack in 1823!?" he asked rudely, cutting me off.
"Yeah," I said, kicking the dirt. Dust rises. "Me and her used to do everything together. Like playing games and sneaking food from the kitchen after dark."
"Sounds like you guys were really close..." He admitted. "I had an older brother. He never spoke to me. He acted like I didn't exist. But with a 7-year age difference, we didn't have a lot in common at the time..." He too started to kick the dirt. His shoes looked familiar, but they didn't register where I ever saw them. "Anyways!" Obviously changing the subject. "Do you have anywhere to stay?"
I was shocked at the question. He just asked if I had anywhere to stay! "No. I'm currently on the run from my evil foster family." Hey, I wasn't lying! They were.
"Well, how would you like to live with me and my family? It'll be quite the journey though; I've traveled quite the ways from home."
I didn't care how long it took. The further the better! "Really? I would love that! Thank you so much!" I gushed.
"But" Adrean warned. "Don't say I didn't warn you this is gunna be a long ride."
I only grinned. "Well then," I say, "We better get started."
