ALLIE PERSONALLY told Gaia that Harry wasn't being arrested. That wishing death on someone, though disgusting, wasn't a crime.

And she would agree. Wishing death on someone wasn't a crime, but wishing death on someone was disgusting.

"Are you okay?" Allie asked.

Gaia looked up at her. It was a stupid question. Very fucking stupid. But Allie knew that. She just wanted to see what head space Gaia was in before letting her be.

She offered Gaia a place to stay once again and she took it. Staying with Harry could be a bad thing. She had been publicly slut shamed by Dewey and Harry... he just wasn't in the greatest space, but Gaia couldn't help him unless he was honest with her.

Noah on the other hand, that would be difficult for Gaia to navigate. To let him be with his father or to keep his distance from him. That was still Harry's son no matter what Harry had done.

But Noah was it Grizz at the moment. Everyone in Allie's house didn't know what Gaia was thinking and keeping Noah with Grizz was the best bet. It's what Gaia wanted. She suggested it.

"I'll be fine, Allie." Gaia smiled softly, playing with the rings on her fingers, "Just another fucking day, you know."

Just another fucking day. That's all it ever was now.

And when Harry had called Gaia, she was hesitant to go, but she went anyway, without Noah.

Gaia hugged herself as she stepped foot into Harry's room. He had been more disheveled, if not worse, than Gaia.

"I keep getting... I keep getting these hang-ups on my phone and these text messages from these unknown numbers." He explained, "It's— I think from people inside the house. Look." He said, pointing the phone towards her, ""Eat shit and die... asshole."" There's more worse than that."

"That's what you called me for?" Gaia asked.

"Yeah." He answered, "I think people are... gonna come after me."

"People?"

"Women. People—" He stuttered, "Everyone's going fucking nuts."

"You're afraid that women are gonna hurt you?" Gaia asked, "Harry, the reason Dewey did what he did was because he knew you hated her. The irony doesn't surpass you?"

"I never said anything to Dewey. He just fucking exaggerated. I mean, maybe I said some shit and then—"

"Why?" Gaia asked, "Why say anything at all?"

"Because some asshole was talking shit about you and Noah! Was I supposed to stand there and say nothing? I was pissed off and I said some shit."

"You shouldn't have said anything!" Gaia said, "That's the point! You say nothing and it keeps you safe!"

"I may be a fucking asshole sometimes, but—"

"What did you say to him?" She asked.

"I don't know." He said, almost in a whisper, tears threatening to fall from his eyes, "I don't... I don't remember exactly. I had a lot to drink. I just... I don't know who I am in this place."

"I don't think anyone does."

"People keep dismissing me like I'm nothing." He said, "There are five people in my little sister's room. Five in my mom's. They take whatever they want as if it theirs, like nothing of mine means anything. So... yeah, I'm angry. I'm angry at Cassandra for humiliating me over and over again. I need you Gaia. I fucking need you. Yeah, maybe I said that I wish she'd disappear. But I didn't mean it. It was just an ugly thought."

She felt sorry for him. She knew he had a problem. But to stay with him was a tough decision. To stay or to go? To leave him hanging or to help him in his call.

She took careful footsteps towards him. He had been leaning against the desk, his hands firmly pressed against the wood as he teetered back and forth on his feet.

She wrapped her arms around his torso and rested her head against his back.

For now, she'd help him. She'd keep her distance, but help him because it's what he needed. He was crying for help and she couldn't back away from that.

THE NEXT day, Allie had called everyone back to the church to sentence Dewey. A day like no other and Allie being the only one to know his sentence.

"I had two decisions to make. Two rulings. First, Campbell. This court is not about vengeance. It's about fairness and justice. The only evidence we have against Campbell, which is from Dewey himself, is unreliable. Without evidence, there can be no trail. So last night, I ordered that Campbell he released from custody. As for Dewey... he's been found guilty of murder, and the punishment for murder is death. Let this be a warning... to anyone who even thinks about using violence on anyone in this town. We will respond. Eye for an eye."

"This is not a court!" Dewey shouted, "You are fucking crazy. You hear me? You got no right! I'm gonna fucking kill you, bitch! I'm gonna kill you. Then you'll be dead just like your sister!"

An eye for an eye. That's what Allie called it. And that's what it would be from here on out.

And that's what it would be from here on out
