Jack aimlessly threw Eric in the back seat before climbing in after him. "Dude what the fuck!" Shawn exclaimed baffled at the state of Eric. "You said he'd never looked better?!" He peeled out of the parking lot, letting his rage take the wheel since that's always proved itself to be a fun and safe for all who lived to tell the tale. "I can explain" Jack said hurriedly holding his arms out in surrender. He felt like a child caught with his hand in the cookie jar, wrestling to find a good defense.
"Im appalled by this deceitful behavior" he raved. Jack found himself fighting the urge to scoff at his brother's lack of self awareness. I mean Shawn got into trouble all the time and even I wouldn't nag this hard. "If you'd just let me-" jack proceeds past clenched teeth, irritated being a gross understatement of how he was feeling right now. "you bring dishonor to the Hunter name!" Shawn punctuated by smacking hard again the steering wheel. "Oh gimme a break. Dishonor might as well be the family name!!" Jack snapped, sick of this little game that Shawn was playing. "Yeah I know" he shrugged dropping his mood from hundred to zero "I'm just tickled to finally be the one scolding YOU. You, Jack Hunter, getting chewed out by me?! HAH its hilarious!" Shawn cackled through a shit-eating grin. "Nah hilarious is a two ton truck rolling over the left side of the car." Jack barked. "it'd roll over Eric too ya know.." Shawn replied smug, tipping his chin up high, as he was sure he'd won the argument. "Sounds twice as funny.." Jack rubbed his hand over his eyes as he felt a headache coming on.
"Seriously though what happened to, Eric? Does he need a hospital?" Shawn glanced back at him over his shoulder. "Aw sick! It reeks of bark back there!" He made a fuss over the smell for a bit before settling down and focusing on the road. Jack didn't answer his previous question right away. Instead he examined Eric, letting out a breath. He'd lost consciousness the second he was thrown into the backseat. He wasn't looking too hot with skin paler then usual, a sweat slicked face, and his chest garnering an orange stain from his own vomit.
He looked feverish all around and Jack had regretted blanketing Eric in his nice jacket since it'd have to be the trash bin's nice jacket after tonight's debacle. "He'll pay for it in the morning.. but no doctors at least for right now." Shawn nodded, blind to the fact that Eric was coming down from an undisclosed substance rather than booze. Shawn had more questions none the less but decided Jack would tell him in due time. "Hey, you didn't tell me you got your license.. when'd that happen?" Jack's question got nothing short of a flinch. Shawn began to sweat as the question hung in the air longer and longer.
"Pull over" Jack deadpanned and at that Shawn sheepishly pulled the car off to the side of the road.
In two shakes of a lamb's tail, Shawn found himself strapped in the passenger seat while jack behind the wheel, driving much steadier then his unqualified little brother. Under normal circumstances Jack would find himself reprimanding Shawn for driving 30 minutes from hone without a license but these were not normal circumstances. Much to Shawn's satisfaction, Jack found himself to exhausted to bother with it anyways. "Are you okay?" Shawn mumbled. Jack glanced over meeting his worried brow pinched above wide glossy eyes. He let out a low hum running a hand through Shawn's tousled hair "we outa get this trimmed.. its getting in your eyes". He hushed in a voice near soundless. He bought time before answering the question. The vulnerability in Shawn's voice made his chest feel tight and his limbs loose, he found it rather disarming. He gently pulled his fingers away from his brother's mop and returned both hands to the steering wheel.
"Don't worry 'bout me, Shawnie.. I'm alright" he seemed to except that with a nod if only to escape the emotion. The rest of ride welcomed silence till they got closer to the city, the sounds of people taking over the dead air. "You get legs, I'll get arms." Jack said as he pulled into the parking lot. Shawn left Jack pleasantly surprised when he agreed without pitching a bitch fit. The two pulled Eric through the door of the apartment much faster than Jack would've by himself. Shawn even helped Jack get him into bed, both swinging their half of him to gain momentum before throwing him onto the bed. "thanks man. Get some rest before school tomorrow" Jack left clapping his brother on the back before turning his heel. "Wait" Shawn called before he could gun it for his room. Jack felt like he was about to cry but kept his hand on the door knob, ready to make a break for it. "We can't leave him like this, all covered in vomit.. it's inhumane" he said still hung over Eric's bedside. "Said who?" Jack huffed. Shawn gave him a grave look, absolutely straight faced until Jack reluctantly shuffled over next to him. He nudged Eric's shoulder in a half assed attempt to wake him before pulling his head towards the ceiling letting out an anguished groan. Shawn then took his turn shaking Eric for a bit until both boys figured they were wasting time trying to wake Eric. "You get him naked, I'll run a bath." Shawn immediately rushing off to the bathroom to fill his end of the deal. "HELL NO?! Ill just get some wet wipes!" Jack bargained.
Shawn rolled his eyes at the tile wall. "Cmon man half the job is already done just get 'is jeans!! He shouted over the water. "Underwear stays on!" Shawn shrugged at that though he couldn't see it, seemingly at peace with that negotiation so he let him know. "No sweat off my ass"
Jack pulled his jacket off him first, letting it fall to the floor. He then tugged Eric's pants off and waited for Shawn to help load him into bath. Shawn took his sweet time before finally joining the two in the bedroom. "Look who decided to show up" Jack said bitterly. Shawn ignored him just taking his half of Eric over to the tub. He dropped his legs to turn off the faucet, checking the temperature quickly, before helping Jack dump him into the sea of bubbles. They wordlessly fell into their roles, Shawn taking a rag to Eric's body, Jack working shampoo through greasy tangled hair. Jack knew they'd look back on this and laugh but doubted it'd be anytime soon. Shawn scooped bubbles up with a finger dotting it on Eric's nose. "Hey stop that" Jacked shooed his hand away which provoked Shawn to scoop a bigger chunk of bubbles and clap his hands inches from Jack's face, sending soap flying everywhere. "AH- Shawn!" He fussed over the bubbles in his hair and mouth, sputtering like a screwed car engine. Shawn laughed maliciously till Jack flicked him with dirty bath water. Shawn and Jack both paused, waiting for the other to make a move before shaking their heads in sync. "Let's not." Said Jack and Shawn agreed. They finished rinsing Eric off as best they could before pulling him out of the tub, sending water sloshing everywhere.
Jack propped Eric up on toilet, ruffling his hair with the towel getting it semi-dry while Shawn sought out clean pajamas in Eric's bedroom.
Getting him dressed proved to be a hassle just like everything else that night but they got it done and sped through the tuck in process.
The boys let out breaths as they admire their work. "Alright he owes us.." Shawn said through pants. "Big time" Jack added, wiping the sweat off his brow before finally heading to bed. It was lights out the second his head hit the pillow.
