Prompt: Write 500 words for your main project (WIP).
Of the Ocean is my main WIP at the moment as A Soulmate's Game is now in the editing stages! So, here is where I ended with chapter 22 after writing 500 words :) I stopped right at 500, but continued writing of course because I got inspired. Of the Ocean
As much as they all wanted to give Kai and Sierra a moment to celebrate, there was no time to do so. If they didn't get going in that second, there was no telling what might happen in the midst of their plan. River and Hudson had never thought they would have an extra person to carry, let alone someone who had clearly been beaten down over and over again over the last three months.
"River, help me get her up," Hudson called over to him, still trying his best to stay quiet.
The two got her to her feet, "Can you walk?" Kai asked from the side.
"Barely," she answered back. Her legs were just strong enough to stand on her own. "I'll be okay. Let's go."
A concerned look was shared between the other four. Cordelia wanted her to come with them. She knew what it would mean to Kai, but part of her worried about how that would affect the plan that River and Hudson had created. Not just adding another person, but also someone who is incredibly weak.
Kai shrugged, "You heard her. Let's go."
Sierra thrust her hand forward, motioning them to get going and stop waiting. No one but Kai knew much about her, but from what Cordelia could see was that she would be just as tough, and probably just as hardheaded, as Kai. The impatient look on her face showed enough to tell Cordelia just how different she and her sister were.
Hudson and River helped her to the door before finally letting go. After being up for a second, she gained some momentum which was enough to keep her up on her own.
When the five made it to the door that led into the cells, they stopped to watch River check and make sure that no one was waiting or about to enter. His head slowly turned back and forth, looking down hallways and around each corner he could see.
"It looks clear, let's go," he stated, waving his hand over his shoulder to get them moving. An eerie silence did nothing but cause each one of their nerves to be heightened. Cordelia peered around each corner with River as they walked through, more and more surprised each time as they saw that no one was around.
She couldn't help but ask, "Where is everyone? Did you know it would be this dead out here?" None of the girls knew him well enough to read his face, but it was pretty clear that this had not been in the plan.
"No, not really. I knew that it would be in between their rounds but usually, at least a few people are out and about just milling around. I've never seen it like this," he swallowed hard as he continued looking forward. Cordelia looked at Hudson, hoping he would give her a better sense of comfort, but he looked just as nervous.
None of this would be as nerve-wracking if it was fully planned this way, but to have it this quiet and abnormal was just sending her into a functioning panic. She knew that the only way out was through, even if that was just a silence just waiting to burst.
They continued through each of the hallways, surprised each time they hit a new turn that was not where they needed to be. Sierra was finally getting the hang of being up again, but the struggle to walk was still just as prevalent. None of them, except for River of course, had really known just how long this walk was going to take them.
What felt like twenty corners later ended up finally being just feet away from their destination. River turned to huddle everyone together, speaking softly and trying to convey the plan as quickly but accurately as possible.
It was mostly ending up the way Cordelia and Kai's plan with Adrian had been drawn out. They would be taking the same kind of crafts, but there would now be more of course. Kai and Sierra would take the bigger craft with River so that he could steer and make sure someone was there to tend to Sierra if needed. Cordelia and Hudson would take the smaller, two-seater craft.
"One problem here," she raised her hand. "Unless Hudson was trained in the last few months since I was held hostage, neither of us knows how to drive those." River looked up at Hudson, watching the slight way that the corner of his mouth ticked up. Cordelia caught on quickly, irritated that no one had told her. "So, you know how to drive one? And you weren't going to tell me?" She scoffed.
Hudson's shoulders shrugged softly, "You didn't ask." Kai's stifled laugh caught Cordelia's attention, breaking her from the irritation that was about to send her hand to the back of Hudson's head.
River shook his head, "Are we done here? I'd like to get out while we
