Numbers Upon Numbers

Jace hissed as he was dropped onto Allen's bed. Partway through the hall, Allen had decided just to pick him up and throw him over his shoulder like a sac of potatoes.  Let's just say Jace wasn't exactly pleased with the action.

The smaller watched as Allen opened the drawer on the side table with a lock on it. He had a question, but he wasn't sure how the man would take it. It was always rude to mention someone's age.

"Allen?"

Allen just hummed in response, too focused on digging through that drawer.

"How old are you?"

Allen just stopped what he was doing and gave Jace a look. "Why do you wanna know?"

"Curious, tell me, please?"

The man shook his head but answered anyway. "In human years I'll be about.. 2,003,765. I usually just round it to two mil. In our years I'm only 28."

Jace stared into Allen's eyes, his words caught in his throat. "Mm...mhm," was all Jace managed to get out before Allen turned back to what he was doing. Jace could hear him chuckling to himself.

The blonde just watched Allen shuffle things around in the tiny drawer. He wondered what he needed from that drawer that he would have to shuffle things around so much. The drawer was already small.

Eventually, Allen pulled out a phone. Jace wondered if his phone was in there.

The taller didn't even look at him, he knew what the blonde was thinking when he pulled that phone out. "Don't even think about it Jace, your phone was destroyed, and this one isn't meant to dial human numbers so even if you try this phone it won't work."

When Allen mentioned phone numbers something clicked in Jace's mind like someone switched a flip. He reached into his jean pocket and wrapped his fingers around a crumpled-up piece of paper he had found in the pocket of the one bright sweater in that stupid closet.

It was a number. He could clearly remember the faded words 'Call me' under the number and some word that was scribbled out above it. Kind of like Allen didn't want anyone to know he had it, or maybe he just didn't want anyone to know who gave it to him.

Either way, Jace was going to dial that number using the little flip phone in Allen's hand, obviously assuming it wasn't a human.

The sound of wheels on the hard floor of the hallway and cheers pulled Jace away from his thoughts. He looked towards the noise, towards the door. It sounded like a lot of wheels. The sound of a specific type of metal clanking together that Jace felt was familiar but couldn't place could also be heard.

He looked from the door to Allen only to be met with his eyes. Jace wondered how he hadn't felt the man's eyes on him. No matter how hard Jace tried to read Allen's face he found nothing.

Jace looked back to the door, the noise had faded.

Allen just sighed and ran his hand through his hair. Jace's curious face made it hard to deny his investigation rights. "You can go see, those idiots will be coming back this way in no time."

Jace immediately hopped off the bed, only taking a second to wonder why he had waited for permission. He was kidnapped and this wasn't his house, or.. building. He walked over to the door, the distant sound of wheels and clanking cheep-sounding metal could be heard. It was getting close fast.

Jace opened the door just in time for three shopping karts to race past. There was a gust of wind and he gasped. Jace quickly stepped into the hallway, so he could see them. He watched as three people in shopping karts flew down the hall. Each of the karts had fire extinguishers and using it tapped to them and was being used as a motor of sorts. He only recognized one of the three.

He grimaced as Zane and two other people crashed straight into the distant wall.

None seemed too fazed. Jace heard footsteps behind him, and he turned to see a blonde boy running down the hall. He couldn't have been younger than 20, but still, he seemed younger than Jace.

"Asshole!" The blondy stopped to scream down the hall. "You were supposed to wait up! God dammit Kai!" One of the people looked over to him and waved at the boy, followed by a distant laugh. Jace was willing to bet that it was Kai. He was too far away to pick out details but Jace could make out his dark hair and strong frame.

After catching his breath the blonde finally noticed Jace. "Oh, hey. What's your name?"

Jace turned, so he could actually get a good look at the boy. He looked like a model, clear white skin, blonde hair, and beautiful green eyes. "Oh, uh-" He stopped, noticing the collar around the blonde's neck. "You have a collar."

"Okay 'you have a collar' nice to meet you too. I'm Niko." Niko looked unimpressed and annoyed like someone had flicked a switch in his mind. The collar obviously wasn't a subject he liked bringing up.

"Heh, sorry I'm Jace," There was something off about Niko that he couldn't place. When Jace looked into his eyes there was something in them that set him off. Niko's eyes were bright. Happy even after the collar conversation was dropped, but still, something lurked deep within. It didn't take Jace long to wonder if he could trust Niko. Even though he was also wearing a collar, he was hiding something. The eerie feeling sent chills down Jace's spine.

"Come on." Niko grabbed Jace's arm and proceeded to drag him down the hall. Niko's grip was strong and Jace only half wanted to escape it. He decided to just let the male lead him to where the others were lounging in shopping karts.

As they got closer Jace realized one was definitely a woman. She had raven-coloured hair and wore a tank top. There was a dark purple moon tattooed on her shoulder. The man Niko had called Kai had a darker skin tone than Zane but lighter than the woman. He wasn't super dark, more of a tan even. He wore a "muscle shirt" that showed off the tattoo on his right arm, a full sleeve. Jace could see spiked vines and roses coming out of and wrapping around a skull on Kai's arm. Kai had dark brown hair and was now lying in his shopping kart lighting a cigarette.

When they got close enough Niko let go of Jace and walked straight to Kai, ripping the cigarette out of his mouth.

"Hey!" The man struggled to get out of the shopping kart he had gotten himself stuck in and ended up tipping it over while still inside. He fell to the ground and Jace winced as Kai hit his head on the hard floor and swore under his breath before struggling to his feet. Jace rubbed his own head as it seemed to throb at the memory.

Kai grabbed Niko and at first, Jace was afraid Kai was going to hit the male, but Kai just lead Niko backwards toward the wall and pinned him. Jace watched as Niko glared at Kai and Kai just reacted with a crooked smile.

"Asshole, you know I hate it when you smoke." Niko dropped the cigarette to the floor, Kai's eyes followed it down then moved back to Niko's eyes. He didn't answer the blonde, he just leaned down and pressed their lips together in a kiss. Jace's eyes widened in surprise as he watched the exchange. He quickly looked away after a few seconds as the kiss between the two seemed to get heated.

He looked at the beautiful woman, Jace couldn't help it when his eyes locked on her. His breath caught in his throat. Her black hair was tied up, Jace's eyes wandered to her beautifully tanned skin and purple tattoo. She looked at him, meeting his eyes and giving Jace an innocent smile. He felt his face heat up and looked away. She seemed harmless, although Jace wasn't sure he could call anyone here harmless.

"You blush easily don't you?"

Jace jumped at the voice behind him, spinning around and met with Kai's lustful gaze. He could see a flustered Niko out of the corner of his eye, the blonde was still leaning against the wall. Strangely seeming ashamed of the events that had just occurred. He was silent.

"Uhm.." Jace stepped back as Kai stepped closer. Something like realization flashed in the male's eyes, and he paused, murmuring a soft "Shit." Then masking the emotion and walking away. Niko perked up and followed him.

"Aww, you scared Kai away." The voice was annoyingly familiar, Jace refused to turn and meet Zane's eyes. Whenever he did, he thought of the car. He didn't want that. The idiot wasn't even Jace's type. Jace didn't even know his type, but it wasn't Zane.

At least he didn't want it to be.
