Nothing's as it Seems

"Hey, why won't you look at me? Are you avoiding me?" Zane walked up behind Jace, grabbing his shoulder.

Jace sighed then turned around to face Zane, "What do you want?"

Zane released Jace's shoulder and let his hand drift to the collar instead. He looped his finger between the collar and Jace's neck.

The shorter rolled his eyes. The man had gotten distracted. Jace didn't even like the collar on his neck. It felt degrading, no one else here seemed at all against it. Allen and Zane even seemed to like it.

He looked at Zane, noticing a slightly metallic shine in his eyes. He had only been able to see it from this angle. He watched Zane as he fiddled with the collar for a while. Just letting the moment sink in.

"What are you?" he whispered, just loud enough for Zane to hear.

Zane's eyes snapped to his in a millisecond and Jace felt his breath catch. He swore could see fire in the man's eyes for the first couple of seconds. Determination? Probably not, maybe lust? Anger? As quickly as it appeared it was gone and Zane looked just as stupid as before.

Jace didn't like how quickly he seemed to switch.

"I don't know."

"What?"

"I don't know what I am."

It was like Zane's brain had gone blank. Like he was numb. Zane honestly had no idea what he was. He just knew... he is. He is here, he exists. That's all he knew. No one told him what he was when he woke up that day.

Allen appeared behind Jace, Zane looked at him and snapped out of his mid-week crisis.

"Oh! heyyy Allen." Zane gave him a goofy grin which the man just sighed at. Zane could feel Jace tense just from the mention of Allen's name.

"Jesus, do you guys teleport or some shit?" Jace was obviously trying to hide it, but the two could hear the wariness in his voice as he spoke through his teeth.

"Yes, took you long enough. They were getting tired of turning corners before teleporting."

"Wait! You seriously teleport!?"

Allen grabbed Jace's arm with a harsh grip and pulled him close. The younger winced at the pain which Allen found satisfying, although he didn't show it.

"Don't fucking yell."

Jace just stared, frozen by his own fear. Zane watched from the sidelines with the woman Jace still didn't know the name of. She had pity in her eyes.

"Well?!" Allen Pulled at Jace, turning the attention back to him.

"I- I won't, I won't."

Allen grabbed onto Jace's collar "Won't what, mutt?"

Jace could feel tears build up in his eyes. He spoke in a soft voice, just loud enough to be heard by Allen, so he wouldn't break down "I won't yell."

"Good." Allen practically tossed Jace to the side and onto the floor by his collar. He nearly hit the wall of the hallway and groaned when he felt his still relatively new cut stretch. Luckily, he didn't hit the ground hard this time and his landing was closer to a sideways sitting position. The worst damage was probably the now slightly re-opened cut.

Zane looked at Jace with only the slightest bit of pity, "Yeah, he doesn't like yelling unless he's the one yelling. You're cut okay?"

"No, it's not okay Zane, why would it be okay?" He snapped, it stung to move and Jace could already see the red liquid seeping through his shirt. He was astounded that Zane could think anything was relatively "okay" right now.
