The man with short brown hair walked in with a smile, offering his hand for me to shake but I didn't move just looked down. "It's alright you don't have to shake my hand. I'm Sergeant James Barnes. "
I slowly looked up at the man, smile still on his face but not a creepy one like the doctor constantly wore. He withdrew his hand and sat on the cot across from me. Clearing his throat he looked back up at me. "How long were you out there? Where did you come from? What's your name?"
I wanted to answer his questions but there were so many at once, he must have sensed that. He put his hand up as if to say sorry, "That was a lot of questions at once I'm sorry. How about we just start with one?" He said with a, warm?, smile. I just nodded my head slowly. "Great, what is your name?"
"Betty." I whispered looking back down at the ground.
"Sorry, what was that sweetheart?" He asked gently.
"B-Betty" I said a little louder hoping he could hear me this time. I looked up at him to see the same smile he's had on his face since he walked in earlier.
"That's a nice name. Definitely American." He nodded.
"A-Are y-you?" I asked, nervous about who had found me.
"Yes. Are you still cold? You're stuttering a little." He asked quickly getting up looking for something.
"N-no. I'm okay." He turned back around slowly, going back to the cot he was previously sitting on while nodding his head.
"You don't have to be scared Betty, we won't do anything to hurt you. Did people hurt you before?" He asked cautiously, a worried look on his face. A look in his blue eyes I've never seen.
I just looked away, not wanting to glance into his blue eyes. His hand slowly reached out towards my arm, I froze, not knowing what to do. He's been really nice, I don't want to pull away and make him mad. Right before his hand touched my arm, multiple people walked into the tent. One of them being the tall, blonde haired man that Sergeant Barnes was walking with yesterday, behind him was a woman in a tan uniform. Sergeant Barnes stood up quickly.
"Steve. Agent Carter." He greeted.
"Who is this? Have we found out if she is a spy yet?" The woman spoke, staring at me with a straight face.
"She's an American. I haven't found out a lot." Sergeant Barnes told the woman before looking to the man. "She is terrified Steve. I don't know a lot but I can tell you that her name is Betty and something bad happened to her."
"There's a war raging outside. Something bad has happened to everyone. Doesn't explain if she is a spy or where she came from or what she is doing here." Agent Carter spit out. " Figure it out Sergeant before we're all fucked."
He nodded at her, looking towards Steve, going to say something but someone screaming in pain interrupted him. "CLEAR THE WAY! MOVE! MOVE!" A soldier yelled out. I involuntary flinched, hoping no one noticed but looked up to see Sergeant Barnes looking at me with a concerned look on his face. I looked away, watching the soldiers haul in another soldier on a stretcher. I slowly stood up walking over to see what was wrong with the soldier. I've never taken care of an injured person but something was pulling me towards him. Looking over a soldiers shoulder, I saw that the injured soldiers leg was horridly injured, someone's finger plugging a hole. I pushed through the soldiers to get closer, my finger in front of me to switch with the other soldier. The injured soldier was put on a cot as the doctor came rushing over.
"Who are you?" He asked looking at me for a split second before looking back at the injured man.
"This is Betty. The new nurse joining your ranks. If she doesn't pull her weight you let me know doctor, I'll take care of it myself." Agent Carter said before I could. The doctor just nodded his head.
