I woke up with a jolt, my heart racing as I realized I was running late on my first day of college. "Damn, I'm going to be late!" I exclaimed, tossing off the covers and rushing to freshen up. I quickly brushed my teeth, washed my face, and grabbed my luggage.

As I said goodbye to my grandmother, I saw a mix of sadness and concern etched on her face. Her eyes, usually bright and warm, seemed dull and worried. "Stay away from trouble, you're all I have left," she said, her voice trembling. I knew she was worried about my safety, but also proud of me for getting into college.

Grandma had always been my rock, especially after my parents disappeared on a business trip when I was young. The memory still stung, but Grandma's love and support had helped me heal. Then, three years ago, my grandfather passed away, leaving Grandma to shoulder the burden alone. I had tried to help out by working after school, but it wasn't enough.

As we drove to the subway, I wondered who would support Grandma now that I was leaving. Would she be okay? Would she struggle to make ends meet? But I didn't want to dampen the mood, so I kept quiet.

"Be careful out there," Grandma cautioned, her voice low and serious. "Avoid bad influences. Anger can lead to regret. Live a life you'll be proud of. Help those in need. Remember where you come from and where you want to go – it'll be your greatest motivation. And don't forget to make me proud."

Her words echoed in my mind as we shared one last hug. I felt a lump form in my throat as I boarded the train. I didn't want to leave her, but I knew I had to.

My mind was racing to get to college on time, but then I saw her – a girl with shiny brown hair. She was sitting across from me, her face hidden behind a book. I wished I could have seen her face, but she didn't turn.

I arrived at college, realizing classes were already in session. Panic set in – I couldn't afford to miss my first day, not after Grandma's words. I dropped off my luggage and asked around for directions to my class.

"Room 3B, down the hall, last door on the left," a student pointed.

I sprinted towards the room, unaware that my life was about to take a dramatic turn.
