"Hey new kid, what brings you here?"
"Me?"
"Yes, you. Why'd you sit at our table?" I glance up to see two pink haired kids. One has his hair shaved and the other has hair covering their eyes with horns sticking out on the top. It was the long haired one who had spoken to me
"Well, there isn't anywhere else really to sit, sorry" I scoot closer to myself, making it so I take up less space
"No need to apologize. Most people don't come by at all. What brings you to The Valley?"
"My cousin goes here. Thought it'd be nice." I say. I wasn't about to drop the fact I was a human to everyone here. It seems like even knowing of a human's existence is a big deal. "My name is Parker by the way."
"Oh nice. I'm Michael, nice to meet you." they pull their hand out to shake it with mine. I reluctantly do, worrying if they'll grasp my hand too abruptly. Surprisingly they don't.
"I'm Jared by the way. Michael's brother." Jared speaks up. I note that he wears hearing aids. Maybe there is a witch sign language or other method of communicating with him if he doesn't have them on. It would be good to know regardless.
"Nice to meet you both. What classes do you have next?"
To my surprise, both of them shared gym with me. It was nice that I would have someone I knew there. Our time chatting had passed by so quickly I almost didn't catch the bell ringing. The classroom was across the school, so it seemed to be a 'fun' walk. Michael and I stand while Jared uses a spell that controls the wheels on his wheelchair. It was amazing how magic accommodated these kinds of things. If they knew I were human, I would really be in more awe of it openly. So far it has seemed that magic has become a huge use in this world, and a good one at that.
It wasn't much longer that I was caught up in my thoughts until we arrived at the gym.
"Okay class, nothing too bizarre today. We have to start decorating the gym for sigil night. Lots of students are getting their own sigils soon and we want to have our event area looking as great as they should be feeling!"
"What's sigil night again?" I ask Jared. He was already searching up decor ideas on his phone. (And on the topic of phones, I should probably make it so mine is connected to whatever they use).
"It's a night where the upperclassmen are celebrated for completing school. Kind of like graduation but it's a bigger deal. They'll line up in front of this portal and reach their hand in to grab an orb. That orb is then melted and becomes their sigil. It's sort of like a connection kind of thing. Have you ever been to one?"
"No, I haven't. It'll be my first this year"
"I wouldn't doubt it. No human has ever witnessed one before." Jared chimes normally.
Wait.. Did he just say human?
"Human?"
"Are you not one?" He asks matter of factly
"How did you even know?"
"Well, for starters most witches here have pointed ears. But there are a few exceptions for people who have some demon blood in them. Most people would assume you're part demon."
"What made you realize I was human?"
"I could see you were a bit impressed with how I use my wheelchair, so it confirmed my suspicions. Earlier I saw you talking to Connor as well. Most kids think damn well they shouldn't."
"What's wrong with Connor?"
"You're talking about Connor?" Michael joins in. "Did Parker talk to him or something?"
