"Why do you want to hide being human?"
"Whatever you do in that school, don't tell people your true past. People don't like that. They don't like humans. Some want humans for their own benefit. You in particular being part witch and part human is a big deal. They look for that y'know, so be on your toes."
"My Nana doesn't like people knowing. They're out to get me here"
"Who is out to get you?"
"Scientists. Weird people. Those who want humans for their own benefit and use me for experiments."
"People do that?" Connor holds a shocked expression by my casualness
"I'm part witch. They want to find out how. Experiment with how I would handle things compared to a witch, demon, or mix of the two. That's why Nana doesn't want me telling people."
"People are cruel like that. I know of this camp that takes magic from young witches. I've seen it before. Parents will send their kids off as humans in the other world to escape it."
"And I'm probably here because of it." I pause a moment. "Speaking of the other world, how do you guys get there?"
"How did you get here?"
"Walked into a closet at school and assumed I fell to my death. Then I woke up in Cris' closet."
"We just have portals. Only a few under strict management. Parents pay guards to not tell."
"Wow both these worlds are screwed up then"
"Aside from the bad, what good is there in the human world? Care to tell me?"

The next day after school I find myself with Jared and Michael. Following them into a teen cafe, I ponder over what the two invited me over to discuss. I had also never been inside a cafe dedicated towards teens up until this point- nevertheless a magic teen one- so I took that as a new experience as well.
"So, tell us how the human world is good" Michael questions. "I mean we can only hear so much from stories."
"They're definitely not so authentic. The book said humans all have spiky hair, and Parker definitely does not." Jared's arm pans over to my head, where my hair is laid on top. Thick and fluffy, completely disproving the theory.
"Well for starters the human world is not all it's made out to be. We have long lasting issues like here. A lot of the same issues though without magic involved. Magic is just a fantasy in novels and shows." I share. "I guess for me personally I liked how everyone interpreted magic. We weren't really scared of its concept but we never expected it to exist in real life. My friend back at home- Jake if you recall- would write stories with me. The human world is good on a smaller scale. With my friends that is. Your group is a huge factor on that."
"What kind of stories did you write with him?" Michael asks, seemingly having completely caught his interest with storytelling.
"Just the usual isekai story of a kid being put in this whole huge world of magic and finding out they're something meaningful. Like an heir to the throne, or the hero that saves years of issues." I explain. "Sometimes your usual magical high school experience."
"So you were sort of a magic nerd?" Michael teases "Does help being here though I would think."
"It does. I wish it would just help me figure out how I got here."

My brain was fried after today. I liked being with Michael and Jared but I just needed a break. Plus I still needed to connect my phone to the internet here or whatever they use. And get it to work with my internet in the human world too. Lots of studying goes into that and what better time to start than when I'm half awake.
