May I?

"Doctor Wilson? Jesica is in your office waiting for you" my assistant, Cory tells me. She's been coming to me for over 3 months now, and each time she comes, she doesn't speak.

This girl is a puzzle, a real life Rubix Cube. Despite her difficulties, I believe I will be able to solve her. I take one last drink of coffee before I grab the breakfast tray and open the door to my office.

"Hello Jes, how're we feeling today?" I ask, acting as enthusiastically as I possibly could.

She gave me no response as usual. I set the tray down on the coffee table between her chair, and mine. Since her incident, she will only eat breakfast, but only if it's with me, and that's all she eats.

We've tried having me offer her lunch and dinner, but she refused. I poured her a cold cup of milk and sat down across from her.

She used her same sluggish pace while she spread butter over her toast, followed by jam, then peanut butter. This was her favorite breakfast by far.

"Doctor Harrison says I should take you on a shopping trip, would you like that Jes?" I ask, leaning towards her with a slight smile.

"Yes, thank you" she barely peeped. She ate slowly, occasionally glancing up at me.

Our files for Jes Tevin are almost blank, and we have next to nothing in the reports from the scene. One of the other doctors suggest I take her out into the real world, why he chose me is beyond comprehension.

Why not have her cousin take her? Perhaps it was due to her wary mental stability. Either way, the fact that Jes agreed to it is progress.

A slight knock at my office door makes Jes jump out of her skin, spilling milk all over herself.

"Oh, sweetie, here" I grab a paper towel and hand it to her, then I go to the door.

"Can you not read you imbecile?! My patient in there is very sensitive and gets scared by sudden noises! The sign says only to knock if it's an emergency, do you know the definition of an emergency?!" I scolded in a hushed tone. I knew exactly who he was, but I really didn't care.

"Doctor Wilson, there is an emergency phone call for you" my boss said in a stern tone. Though I was a good half a foot shorter than him, I still attempted to get in his face.

"An emergency is a life threatening occurance. Examples are: fires, tornadoes, tsunamis, etc. an emergency phone call is no where near as important as my patient in there"

"I understand your situation, but the person on the other side of the phone call seems very rushed, and eager to speak to you in particular" my boss lowered his voice.

"What do you suggest I do with Jes in there, huh? I can't just abandon her because of a phone call. Tell the caller to leave me a message on my phone and I'll get back to them later" with that, I closed the door, and locked it with a finalizing click.

"I'm so sorry Jes, there's just some issues going on, but he really shouldn't have knocked..." I walk over to her, milk spilled all over her loose sweatshirt and jeans.

She gestured to the wetness of her clothing and looked at me, her face emotionless, her eyes glossed over almost. She looked somewhat pitiful, but she was a nice girl, I know it.

"Would you like me to have one of the nurses wash your clothes? I have some extra sweats if you'd like to wear them?" She gave a small nod and so I stood up and went over to my desk.

Unlocking the drawer, I pulled out an oversized sweater and sweatpants. I took them over to Jes and set them down in front of her.

"I'm going to go wait outside while you change, when you're done, just open the door and hand me your clothes" I smile and give her a little wave before exiting the room to give her privacy.

While I waited I pulled out my cell phone and checked my voicemail, where the "emergency caller" should have left a message. I dialed my password and waited.

"Hello Amanda. Want to know something? Your current patient, Jesica Tevin, isn't as innocent as she seems. Underneath her act of innocent victim, she's a cold blooded killer. Don't be mislead by her. Until next time, Doctor Wilson"

And that was the end of it. I replayed it a few times, not believing what I was hearing. The voice was clearly a man's, but it sounded weak and scratchy.

The door opening behind me made me jump until I realized it was only Jes. I took her soiled clothes and gave them to a nurse for him to wash them, then we went back inside my office.

"So Jes, do you wish to talk to me today?" I asked in a soft, soothing manner. She didn't move, she hadn't even winked and eye.

I repeated my question, wondering if she hadn't heard me the first time. This time, she looked up at me, her deep blue eyes were staring into my soul.

"May I talk this time?" She asked.
