Word Count: 2,282Hable's little orange body wiggled across my blue carpet, each step a mighty step for mankind. Those little claws were splayed wide, gripping the ground like she was moments from sliding down a mountain.
Somewhere in the back of my head, action movie music surrounded each one.
"Sintaaaaaaa," Tenna cooed, holding up the gray kitten and staring straight into those cracked open eyes.
I shuddered for my little bean because she couldn't do it herself.
What a horrifying way to be introduced to the world.
Steamed broccoli and the scent of simmering beef resonated from the kitchen, the occasional clink of a cooking utensil hitting against a pan or the counter. Only Kakashi's silhouette, deepened in the orange glow of my kitchen light, could be seen. Quietly, the shinobi hummed to himself, too quietly for me to make out any specifics.
But I'm pretty sure it was "Gurenge." I know that song like the bottom of my soul. There was no hiding LiSA's voice from me.
Looks like Kakashi's curiosity about Rengoku hadn't just prompted him to watch Mugen Train.
"They're, like, giant now," Tenna marveled. After a shower, her red eyes had been cleared away of all distress. Her forehead was line-free, the paleness gone from her night tossing and turning in a dazed, if deep, slumber.
"I wouldn't say giant."
Tenna looked at me, blinking owlishly. "No, they are. They totes are."
Shaking my head, I agreed for the sake of moving on. We sat in comfortable silence as we watched the movements of the kittens who had found a sudden need to explore the world they could finally see.
Popping up from the ground, I headed into the kitchen. "Need any help?" I asked casually, trying not to grin. Moments before my socked feet padded onto the linoleum, the humming had abruptly stopped.
Too bad I had already heard him from the living room. Perks of having a small apartment.
"No, it should be ready soon." Kakashi's broad back didn't turn to look at me. A forced, casual tilt of his broad shoulders made me want to tease him a little more.
Sidling up to the other side of the counter, where the sink stood at Kakashi's back, I asked, "So what do you think of Tanjiro?"
The abrupt noise of a wooden spoon hitting against the side of a pan accompanied the sudden stream of sink water I let out. My mouth twitching up and down in a small smile, I began the work of washing the accumulated dishes.
From the living room, I heard Tenna call out, "Ooooooh, Tanjiro! I know that one! That's the—the green one right?"
Snorting, I clarified, "The one that wears the green-checkered haori? Yeah."
