Chapter Four: The Girlfriend

Maria and David exited the house silently and walked to his car.

"It's doesn't work. Engine is busted." David said disappointed.

"It's not busted, it is just disconnected , i discontented the battery to stop the car from moving." Maria said, while re-plugging the car battery. "What are you waiting for? I can't drive I'm only 14!"

David entered the car, then Maria.

"Where are we headed to? The police station?" David asked.

Maria looked at him, " The authorities can't find out about this. We need to find someone who is trustworthy. I know a guy who I think will be just right for the mission. His name is Richard, but call him Rick."

David phone then immediately started ringing.

"Shit. I mean... Oh no!" David said trying to coverup his inappropriate language.

"It's fine. Curse as much as your heart desires." "What's wrong? Who is calling you?" Maria said nervously.

"It's my girlfriend. I haven't talked to her or responded to her messages in awhile. I think she is worried about me. Should we tell her?"

Maria interrupted before he could say more, "No! You can't tell anyone about this mission. Tell her you are sick or something."

David looked shocked when Maria said that but slowly calmed down over time.

"I can't lie to her. She detects every single lie, white lies too!" "I need to stop by her house for a minute."

"You can't do that. We need to get to Rick as soon as possible!" Maria said demandingly.

"I need to! I need to tell her I will be away for sometime. I won't tell her what's happening I promise. I just need to tell her I'm not going to be around."

Maria looked disappointed. She put her thin hands over her face and said, "Fine. Only for five minutes though. I'm keeping track."

David arrived at his girlfriends house ten minutes earlier then expected. The reason why this happened was because he was driving with 50 mph (past the speed limit). David jumped out of the car and said, "Wait here, it will only be a minute."

Maria pulled out her hand and looked at her wrist, where an old vintage watch was strapped. "I'm keeping track, remember."

David walked to the front of the house door and gave a loud knock.

"Honey! It's me, David. Open up."

The door opened and a beautiful lady appeared. Her name, Brooke.

"Oh my gosh, I have been worrying so much! Where have you been? Are you okay! Why are you here?" Brooke said relieved. Brooke caressed David's cheek and looked deep into David's eyes.

"I am fine. I uhh... was very sick! I am better now though. My friends um... DOG, he passed away. I won't be in town for awhile." David said, trying to convince Brooke every lie he said was real.

Brooke looked suspicious. She knew something was up, but couldn't but her finger on it.

Brooke began talking, "Okay well...." but got interrupted by Maria.

"David." Maria silently whispered to him. "Can you and me talk in private, just for a minute."

"Oh yeah! Um... Brooke, this is...Maria." "She is...." David stopped trying to think of a believable relative.

"His cousin!" Maria said brightly.

David looked at Maria and smiled.

"Yes! She is my cousin from..Bulgaria!"
"She came to visit and come with me to my friend's funeral!"

Maria started to fake tear up, " Such a sad loss. David's friend was a good man."

Brooke looked at Maria and said, "I thought his dog died." Brooke's suspicion grew bigger.

"Yeah! I was talking about the dog. Great pal! Now David, you said we can talk in private?"

David and Maria walked back to the car.

"Yes?" David said concerned.

Maria pulled David closer and whispered in his ear, "We need to go, now." "We are being followed."

David looked at her. "How do you know and who?"

"Well remember the guy who robbed you, yeah well.... They are following us."

"More then one!" David said worried.

"Actually three to be exact." Maria said seriously pulling David in the car.

David refused by pulling away. "I need to tell her. The people trying to follow us will probably do something to her if we escape. You know many things about me already and I am concerned about what they know. I can't let anything happen to her."

Maria started to think. She gave her thinking time, like she wasn't in a rush.

"Okay, but she can't find out anything." "The only thing you can tell her is we are in great danger and she is too."

David nodded and ran to Brooke. He told her what Maria said to tell her. Brooke looked confused.

"Wait what happened. What the dog funeral a lie. How can I trust you!"

After Brooke said those words David became even more upset then usual. He didn't deserve what was happening to him. Brooke realized her mistake a few seconds later and replied,

"I'm sorry." The reply to her hurtful remark was said so softly, only a person inches away could hear her.

David lead Brooke to the car. He went in the drivers seat and turned on the engine.

"Where now?" David said, with a low mellow voice.

"The safest place is Rick's. I will guide you but first, take out your phones SIM card." Maria said.

"What! Why?" David said why grabbing his phone and removing the SIM card.

"So nobody else starts tracking us."
