Ch5: Father Kagami

Kagami Taiga had always been tight-lipped about his personal life. He rarely spoke about his family or his past, and so it was always a mystery to his teammates at Seirin and the Generation of Miracles. However, one day during practice, the topic of their parents' occupations came up, and Kagami couldn't help but lie.

"My dad's a business consultant," he said, shrugging nonchalantly.

Everyone raised their eyebrows in surprise. Kagami was a talented basketball player, but he didn't seem like the kind of guy who had a dad with a high-profile job.

"Really?" Kise asked, sceptical.

Kagami nodded, trying to look convincing. He had no idea why he was lying. Maybe it was the pressure of being around the other prodigious talents of the Generation of Miracles. Maybe he just wanted to fit in.

The topic of Kagami's dad's job came up a few more times over the next few days, and each time Kagami stuck to his story. However, one day during lunch, Kuroko overheard a conversation between Kagami and his father on the phone.

"Hey, Dad, how's work?"

There was a pause on the other end of the line.

"It's going well. Just closed a big deal with a major corporation."

Kuroko's eyes widened in surprise. Kagami's father was a CEO? He couldn't wait to tell the others.

Later that day, during practice, Kuroko casually brought up the conversation he overheard.

"Kagami, I didn't know your dad was a CEO."

Kagami froze, realising he had been caught in his lie. The other members of Seirin and the Generation of Miracles turned to him with curiosity.

"What do you mean?" Aomine asked.

"I overheard him talking on the phone during lunch," Kuroko explained. "He said he closed a big deal with a major corporation."

Kagami sighed, realising he couldn't keep up the lie any longer.

"Yeah, he's a CEO," he admitted, looking down at his feet. "I didn't want you guys to think I was trying to show off or something."

The others were stunned into silence. Kagami had always been one of the most down-to-earth members of the team, and this revelation was completely unexpected.

"I had no idea," Midorima said, shaking his head.

"Me neither," Murasakibara added.

Kise, on the other hand, was grinning from ear to ear.

"Wow, Kagamicchi, you're even cooler than I thought!" he exclaimed.

Kagami rolled his eyes, but couldn't help feeling a sense of relief. He had been carrying the weight of his lie around for days, and it felt good to finally come clean.

"Thanks, guys," he said, smiling. "I'm glad you know the truth now."
