Prologue

The sky was gloomy and the rain was pounding down hard on the sidewalk.  Two cloaked figures hurried towards a house, talking in hushed voices.

"We have to do this Robert, the slayers know where we are and they are not going to spare us, let alone a small baby. She has so much to do in her life, and you know what the Witches said, 'she is the hope vampires have been looking for in the endless war between us and the slayers.' She is the only one who can bring peace between us all. And anyway, I want her to have a normal life, like any other girl, a life without bloodshed and death and only my sister can give her that."

"Neesha, but she is a half-blood vampire- she will be hunted and killed for what she is by other vampires, and if what the Witches said were true then she will never have a normal life. She will end up constantly fighting for the peace they talk about."

"I know Robert but it's too late now, it isn't safe for her to stay with us anymore," Neesha sighs, dipping her head slightly.

They both reached a small average looking house and walked up towards the door. Robert reached gently into his cloak to uncover a small sleeping child wrapped up tightly. They both leant in to give her one last kiss before carefully placing her on the doorstep, away from the rain.

"You have to stay strong, my dear Aurora, you will face many, many challenges throughout your life but you must never forget that your mummy and daddy love you."

Now the small child had opened her large dark eyes and stared deep into her mother's watering eyes with the understanding no baby could hold. Neesha placed another kiss on the child's forehead and wiped her tears away before placing two letters next to their child.

"What are they?" her husband questioned.

"Two letters, one for Liliya explaining what she needs to know and the other's for Aurora telling her about what she is and what would have happened to us and above all that we love her very very much." Neesha replied standing up.

"It's time to go my love, we have to go and prepare for what the morinig brings us," Robert said gently, taking his wife into his arms. She nodded and pressed the doorbell, gave her daughter one last look, and walked away quickly.

The door of the house opened to reveal a tired looking man in shorts and a top, "Liliya, you better come here quickly!" the man shouted loudly over his shoulder. Minutes later, there stood a even tired looking lady with her bathrobe wrapped tightly around her. She scooped the sleeping baby in her arms with the two letters. She tore open the letter addressed to her, whilst carefully holding the child and read it quickly. Her eyes started to well up as she gazed at the child sleeping peacefully in her arms.

"What's wrong honey?" the man asked with concern written all over his face.

"Oh Luke, this is our little niece Aurora, Neesha's child."

"I thought that you said that your sister had died?" a puzzuled expression crossed his face.

"She had, I mean she is dead, but accoring to this letter..." Liliya paused "she's going to be properly dead by the end of the week." Tears were now falling freely down her face.

"OK. OK, calm down and come inside to explain what's going on, we have to get this child inside, away from the cold anyway." Luke said leading the sobbing Liliya, who was cluching the child to her, inside the house.

They didn't notice the two cloaked figures watching from the shadows.
