It's a tradition in Korea to give rice cakes to their neighbors when they move into a new place. KDJ, new in the apartment complex, only planned to give rice cakes to this gorgeous man next door, yet he ended up giving a different type of rice cakes to him??
Yoo Joonghyuk heard the doorbell ring, making him realize it was still working like how it was intended for. It has been a while since somebody rang it, he paid his rent on time, never needed deliveries since he bought things personally and cooked meals on his own. Never invited anyone in, knowing he had a small child with him. He didn't want his little sister to be influenced by some weird adults and grow up wrong.
So who could it be? Who tested his doorbell so suddenly without permission?
Joonghyuk went to his door and pulled it open.
A pale, skinny man looked up at him, gawked for a short while before he smiled. Soft, shy, he rubbed his nape and held up a flat, rectangular box to him. "I moved in next door, I came to give you some rice cakes from my hometown, it's a delicacy there. Ah, my name is Kim Dokja, by the way..."
Kim Dokja, the courteous neighbor, took a long glance at him, and his eyes dilated as soon as he sputtered, "Ah...a-are you dating someone?"
"What?"
Where did the courtesy go? Why ask such an intimate question the first time you meet someone?
"Uh, I'm sorry, please forget my question! I think I have come at the wrong time so I'll be on my way now!!" The skinny neighbor ran away right after forcing the box of sweets in his hands.
"What the heck is wrong with him?" Joonghyuk remembered how the man seemed to have seen a ghost, or not.
He looked so flustered and panicked.
"...why did he ask me if I'm dating someone?"
Joonghyuk shrugged, stepping back from his apartment's threshold with the box in his hand. "I don't eat foods made by others."
He let out a sigh before placing the box on a table, not bothering to open it.
Then he returned to the kitchen, put back his apron and continued making the pie that Mia requested of him.
"Oppa! What happened?" Mia was still mixing the batter for a different recipe.
"Someone moved in next door and gave us rice cakes."
"Can I eat it?" Mia abandoned the wire whisk and rushed to the living room, taking the box of sweets with her.
"Those things don't have taste."
