He could feel the heat emitting from his cheeks, it was too awkward. The situation was unsettling, and he made it more uncomfortable for her. It was like a snowball rolling downhill with the initial awkwardness gaining momentum as the moment passed. She wanted to buy things and now it was his responsibility to help her.
Scratching his forehead, he glanced around. When he opened his mouth to speak, she cut him off.
"I was wondering if you had any ideas or if I should attend myself."
He composed himself, observed her, and finally spoke.
"You go and freshen up first, I'll take you to the mall."
"Yes, definitely but do you think it would be decent enough if I wear your clothes and go, the rooms stuffed with your clothes only?" She lowered the irritation in her tone.
"Ooh sorry, actually last night I took you to my room. There is this other room where Maryam stayed last time. Maybe I could get you clothes from there...
He paused and glanced at her. Seeing her a bit relaxed he continued
"Would that be alright with you?" he asked cautiously.
She hummed in response, her eyes softer than before.
"Alright, then, I'll bring it for you." He said.
She walked back to her room, and he walked to the other room to fetch the required thing. As soon as he entered the room, he looked inside the cupboard to find many clothes hanging there. This was the first time he had done something contrary to his personality. He was surprised that he didn't feel an ounce of anger for her since anger was the only emotion that came out when he was with others and when something happened against his wishes. The world looked anew to him, unfettered by prior biases and preconceptions. It was as if he had emerged from a cocoon looking at the world differently.
He rummaged through the cupboards and took out a baby blue set his eyes got stuck on. This would look good on her he thought. But then it occurred to him that the colour was too light and wouldn't suit her condition. She might get angry. At last, he found a dark blue outfit and quickly took them out. Thinking she might be waiting he walked out and knocked.
Murtasim khan was choosing outfits for Meerab khan. Iconic.
He was right, she was waiting. Her expression changed in response to the outfit, morphing into appreciation, and she opened the door. For the first in her consciousness, she gave a small smile to him. Neither did he know, dark blue was her favourite colour, so she was more than pleased.
After saying a small thank you, she walked to the closet and changed into it.
Murtasim waited for her in the car. After almost ten minutes, she got out of the house and got into the car.
