A shuffling noise woke Keir out of his sleep. Glancing around, still half asleep, he saw Elswyth slink into the cave and lie down close to the wall.

"Guess she went pretty far with that Poochyena; the further away, the better; it'll hopefully keep more of those carnivorous fucks away from here..." he thought to himself.

He glanced over to her; she was lying to face the outside with her head in her paws, a blank expression still sat on her face. Whether it was a new blank expression or the same she had worn when she left, he couldn't tell. Keir saw the moonlight reflecting in her eye, turning her sky blue eyes into a silvery grey. She eventually noticed him looking at her, shifting to look at him more directly.

"Sorry for taking so long; I just wanted... it and all its pack to stay away from here." Elswyth mumbled, putting on a fake smile. She seemed to look at him with a sorrowful—almost guilty—look in her eyes. "I... I just don't know how to feel; I l-literally killed a pokemon!" She sighed as tears began to prick the corners of her eyes, the moonlight catching them and causing them to twinkle slightly.

"I... I know how you feel; I used to work on a farm before... y'know." He gestured to his freshly wrapped-up wounds. "Had to kill Weedle that were eating through some of the berry crops before. Never wanted to do it and haven't forgiven myself either..." Keir said while he looked at her remorsefully.

The Sylveon smiled meekly at him. "I get you're trying to help by relating to me and all... but, can we just move on from the conversation and just sleep?" Elsy murmured. Keir simply nodded and went back to how he lay before, as Elswyth did the same. Soon, both eeveelutions drifted off into an uneasy sleep.

...

When Keir opened his eyes again, he saw a thick layer of frost sitting on the blades of grass outside. Sunlight reflected off them directly into his eyes, causing him to wince and close his eyes slightly.

"Looks like a Kyurem had a hissy fit last night." Elswyth mumbled, the suddenness of her voice made Keir jump. After quickly composing himself, he responded: "Uh, y-yeah... it sure does." He answered back in a tired grumble.

There was a long silence between the two; the only sounds they could hear were the rustling of leaves and the groaning of the wind outside.

"Listen, I'm sorry about yesterday and not actually doing anything until you were literally about to die. It's just..." Elswyth cut herself off.

"It's just what?" Keir questioned, looking into the Sylveon's sorrowful eyes.

Elswyth just sighed and looked away. "It doesn't matter, not now, at least." She muttered, echoing Keir's words from the previous day. Though he was still curious about what was eating away at Elswyth, Keir chose not to question her, as she had done the same for him, though he found it slightly odd that they had both mimicked each other in the last two days.

The two sat in silence once more, both staring out at the frosty landscape outside. Keir's stomach began to grumble softly, so he began to lift himself off of the floor. Elswyth looked over and cleared her throat to get his attention. Keir looked over at her.

"What are you doing? You should be resting still!" She scolded as she got to her paws and walked over to him.

"I'm feeling hungry, so I'm getting up to go get myself some berries. Is there a problem with that, Elsy?" Keir said rather bluntly.

"Well, no, you can walk around still; just because you can, though, doesn't mean you should. Lie back down; I'll get you your berries, Keiry." Elsy spoke softly before walking over to the back room. "That ain't exactly a good nickname; got any others~?" He cooed sarcastically, Elswyth looked back at Keir.
