Ever wanted to try out writing Science Fiction as a genre? This month's set of prompts is for you.

We're challenging you to write a short story with a minimum word count of 1000 and a maximum of 5000.

Your story has to be primarily Science Fiction, but it can be any subgenre you like. You have until midnight on 31st March (EST) to submit your entry.

Once you've completed your story and published it here on Wattpad, please post the link to your completed entry in the comments at the bottom so we know you've entered. If you don't post your link, or if you post the link later than the mentioned deadline, you won't be considered entered.

The interpretation of each prompt is entirely left to the writer, so we highly encourage you to unleash your curiosity and creativity with these prompts.

Co-writing is allowed, and it has to be a new story, not one that you've previously posted on Wattpad. English is the only story language we can accept as of now.

You can publish the story as a chapter of a short story collection if you have one of those.

Prompts

1. The first space flight to Mars discovers that the universe is not what they thought it was...

2. Presumed dead as a child, you are pulled from your mundane life on Earth to a planet across the universe, where the inhabitants crown you as the only heir to the galactic empire's throne. How will you use your unexpected power to bring peace back to the galaxy.

3. In a post-apocalyptic world, a lone scavenger discovers a small, mysterious object amidst the ruins. As they uncover its true nature, they realize it holds the key to a new beginning.

4. Humanity makes contact with an alien species. They seem rather friendly, but also quite baffled. After working out basic English, they asked us, "We have not seen any starship leave this system for one of your many other colonies in 297,591 local years. Why? Have you quarantined the system?"

5. Teleportation is the primary means of transportation. But when an outside force interferes with the teleportation system one day, thousands of people are sent to mysterious dimensions. It's up to a small group of technicians and scientists to figure out what went wrong and how to get these people back.

6. In a world where advanced technology allows for the creation of lifelike androids, a young girl forms a bond with her robotic companion. When the government declares that all androids must be destroyed, she must find a way to save her friend.

7. "According to the Universal Laws of Galactic Order, one planet must be substituted for a black hole every trillion years to maintain a constant state of entropy. Earth has been chosen to undergo this change. We offer our deepest condolences."

8. In a near-future city plagued by pollution, a brilliant scientist invents a device that can purify the air. However, the device has unintended consequences, causing unexpected changes to the environment and the people living in it.

9. On a space station orbiting a distant planet, a crew member begins to suspect that their fellow astronauts are not who they appear to be. Paranoia sets in as they struggle to uncover the truth before it's too late.

10. In a society where memories can be bought and sold, a person wakes up with no recollection of their past. As they search for answers, they discover a hidden truth about the nature of memory and identity.
