The 2 days I had until my next History of Arts lecture went rather quickly, with my first architecture class since break being in the same cold studio with uncomfortable chairs and no coats or jackets allowed and so I had to endure through the October air what with the windows being 'stuck' in an opened position. That was the professors excuse I'm sure for him being too hot due to his medication we all knew he was on. I remember one time I was here for an extra day during Easter break and as I walked past the studio I noticed the windows were closed and locked, however coincidentally just as we come back someone opens them again and they got 'stuck'.
I walked into the large room and took a seat in my new space next to the fiery haired boy, who at present was sitting on his phone typing something quite lengthy to someone who's name I could not see from where I was sitting.
"Edward" I said formally as I took my seat and placed my books neatly into the table so that the corners of the books were perfectly aligned with the edges of the table.
"Ahh Ummel, we meet again" he said, raising his eyebrows as he drew his attention to me momentarily before continuing on his phone.
"That an essay you're writing there?" I asked, peering over to the screen to try and see who's name was at the top of the messaging app.
"Nah it's my roommate, he's got an interview today and I think he's soiling his boxers as we speak" he said with a light chuckle, not concealing his phone as I looked onto the screen.
"Harry?" I said, reading the same I saw
"Yeah that's him, he's the one who's just transferred from Bath. I told you he's taking architecture, was he not in your class?" He asked and I thought back to yesterday and tried to remember if I saw anyone I hadn't before.
"I don't know I wasn't particularly looking around I didn't notice anyone new" I said shrugging my shoulders as he locked his phone and put it down. "He has an interview as in, a job?"
"Mhm, well I think it's an apprenticeship or something. What's your job or, apprenticeship whatever it is you do in your spare time?"
"I...I don't have a job..." I said blankly, in an entire year no one had ever asked me that, and though even my closest friend had a job I had never even considered it.
"What?? Why not?" He asked, his voice lowering as people began to quiet down.
"I don't kn-"
"Turn in your books if you will class to where we left off last time" the sound of Mr.Torrinder's voice sounded throughout the room and Ed and I snapped our heads up and then back down to our books to avoid getting in any more trouble.
"Assignment for next week is to read this book I am handing out to you as you walk out, highlight anything you think is key information" our professor said as people started filing out from the room at the end of the lecture. I took a book from his hands as I walked out and didn't bother to examine it as I added it to the small pile of books already in my hands as I began my walk back to my room.
"Hey! Hey Mel! Wait up!" I heard a voice call and I wasn't surprised when I turned around in the vacant corridor to see Ed jogging up to me, trying to catch his breath.
"Really? You ran-what, 50 metres to catch up to me and you're out of breath" I said whilst pulling my keys out from my pocket, knowing my roommate was in class.
"Try class to residential building" he managed to tease with his hands on his knees as he steadied his breathing.
"Can I help you Edward?" I said before I could open the door, I barely knew the guy, I wasn't going to let him in alone with me.
