A/N: so I forgot that time in plots is important so for the sake of this book, Faith is 7 months old.
It was nearly five months since Vivan dropped off Faith at Elias's office and during those five months, neither Vivan or her aunt ever contacted Nala. What was the young woman doing since then? Partying. Partying like the teen she used to be and moved on from the past she hid from everyone. Forgetting about her pregnancy, forgetting about the one night she spent with Johnny the moment she turned 18, and forgetting about her precious daughter. To Vivan, she was just a simple 18 year old with her life ahead of her and not a young single mother. To her, Faith never existed and her night with Johnny and her whole pregnancy never existed either.
Each time her aunt brought up Faith or asked her to at least reach out to Nala to know how her daughter was doing since the last time she saw her. While her aunt supported her niece giving her daughter a new beginning, the thought of her being in the wrong hands worried her. However, Vivan always stormed out of her house and went to whatever party that was getting held uptown to avoid the argument. Her aunt could only shake her head at her niece and prayed that Nala was taking good care of baby Faith.
Faith was in good hands. Nala loved her as her own and took her out to the park on her days off, played with her at the end of her days, and sung her a soft lullaby that she wrote for Faith. Even though Nala didn't carry and birth her, she was her mother and wasn't going to let anyone take Faith from her. Nala thankfully had friends who took turns caring for Faith on the weeks Elias needed Nala full time and kept their promises of not exposing Johnny's secret anywhere as it too would impact Nala's life. She could get fired and Faith could get taken away if authorities knew their secrets. Who would believe that a rockstar could raise a kid without fame getting in the way or influences harming them.
Nala and Johnny had been spending more and more time together and while that wouldn't be an issue, it was to Gretchen. She clearly disliked her since the beginning but not even Gretchen's hatred could bring her down. The band knew of Gretchen's hatred towards Nala but knew to not bring her up whenever they got invited to their house for drinks. They're hangout sessions weren't the same without Nala and wouldn't be for a long while.
Gretchen would continue to harass Nala on the daily but Nala would keep that from Johnny because she feared it'll tore him and Gretchen apart. Each time Nala threatened to send the screenshots, recordings, and voice memos to Johnny, Gretchen freaked out and would leave her alone for roughly a week. She knew Gretchen's weakness and would strike her weakness spot soon.
Only time would tell.
"Remember when we went to that rock concert? Oh how much fun we had that night!" Johnny excitedly reminded Nala while they went through memory lane and the two friends acted like teens again.
The two friends went through the large photo book Nala had stored in her closet and they spent the night laughing at memories. Then they came across the famous photos each of them had in their houses-the selfies they took moments before and after attending their first rock show. Both teens wore all black, band tee shirts they bought at their favorite alternative store, Doc Martens they broke into weeks in advance, and they amped up their hair and makeup skills for the perfect night. The two best friends smiled so bright that their eyes shined like stars and anyone could tell that was the happiest day of their lives. From sunrise to sunset they spent the day together and all they mentioned was how fun the concert would be, and by the end of the night they couldn't stop talking about their favorite moments of the concert.
All their childhood memories went through their minds after glancing at the famous photos and Johnny realized another thing that evening. He was even more in love with Nala since childhood and was ready to end things with Gretchen. A tough decision not everyone is ready to make but after long weeks of consideration, Johnny didn't see a future with her anymore. Knowing that his future wife was harassing his best friend didn't sit right with him, and saw her true colors. Nala was his childhood best friend, knew him before anyone did, understood him on personal levels, and was his type in every way.
"I wanted to ask you something and need your honest opinion," Johnny began telling her while they got comfortable on her large couch with wine cups in their hands. The man was petrified of telling her his feelings like a shy teen being nervous about talking to their crush. He'd been in love with her since childhood and while yes rejection was possible, he feared it and couldn't risk losing this opportunity with her.
"Of course, what's on your mind?" he remained in awe at her sweet voice and how angelic she was to him in every possible way. The way she spoke about her fixations, how hard she worked on set and while on shows, and the soft sound of her voice when she sung backup vocals in the booth.
Johnny had dreams about starting his life with her, eventually settling down after taking a break from doing exhausting tours, and opening his own music studio to teach anyone how to play any instrument or sing. A long term dream he'd been daydreaming about his whole life and was just a step closer in achieving it. Johnny teaching kids how to play instruments while Nala sung was pure paradise to him.
"I kind been scared and very shy about bringing this topic up but feel like now is the best time to tell you this," Johnny nervously stated while sipping his wine and tried to play it cool in front of her. That's when he looked at her and just confessed it all to her as the alcohol was taking over.
It's now or never.
"I've been in love with you ever since we were kids and want to be in a relationship with you, Nala,".
