Xao:

Hearing the explosions, myself, Kyle, Tyrell and J-Star took off running to get to the other side of the large hill. As we did, a blast of electric energy cut across our path, too far ahead to hit us, but present enough to stop us. I turned left to see the source of the blast.

"You are all fools when it comes to tactics," said Frace. "We need to form up and approach with caution."

Carn burst out of a tent in the midst of the camp and clapped three times, thunder echoing out from him as he moved. He quickly pointed at my team. "Get back with your respective tribe members- whoever is on the other side of the mountain can wait so we aren't tripping over ourselves. Dorn and Jeda, move to the left flank, Frace, go right. Quarteen, take the human boy and hide." Carn knelt down, electricity flowing over his body and charging into the ground around him. "Move out!" He punched into the air above himself as he unfurled his body and- shot into the air, moving from the middle of the camp and bounding over the fifty-foot peak the main tent was built into.

As I ran I had my eyes on him in shock, running into Dorn's leg. I tried to apologize, but the man just grabbed my arm and pulled me along with himself. "Save your sister now, gawk later," he yelled.

We got around the hill in formation, seeing a battle ensuing between Elain and Maelstrom- or rather seeing Elain try to put up a fight and go down in seconds, Jessica already down for the count. Both girls now lay on the ground as Carn dropped right in front of the mountain of the man that was our gargoyle opponent.

Maelstrom currently had his back to Carn. The invader sighed. "I heard the boy. Give me the last sample and we can avoid casualties."

Carn got up, speaking from deep in his belly, "You are not in a position to make demands." Carn put out his right hand and one of the swords that had been flying around Elain slung into it.

Carn's sword was in the form of a Dussak, with a curved back handle. The handle was covered in thick green glass, inlaid in iron, gold lining the back of the blade. The blade was made of Cyra and I suspected the handle was run through with the super durable material as well. The blade actually looked rather dull, with two grooves heading down the length of the three-foot weapon.

Frace roared as he came over the hill, opening his left hand, probably to summon his own sword as three electric vortexes opened around him and- he was flung into the air and slung at the mountain as Maelstrom spun around, his sword out and swinging straight for the head of Carn.

Frace slammed into the earth of the hill, flopping to the ground, as Carn stood his ground, blocking the massive blade with his comparatively much smaller weapon. He didn't challenge Maelstrom's strength, simply using his blade to redirect the much larger weapon to his left side and to the ground.

Carn opened his left hand and Maelstrom was flung backward as if by air, landing on his own two feet. "Hear me beast- beat me, and you can have whatever you desire," Carn held up his sword to the creature.

"I take it you are the most powerful here?" the gargoyle asked, holding up his weapon as well.

"You've taken out two of my most powerful agents already, a third is occupied and would never stand a chance, and a fourth also would have nothing to offer."

I had a feeling who the fourth was as I watched Narmee pushing Floreen back as our resident therapist was attempting to pull Frace back behind the mountain.

"Let us take this scurvy dog together me husband," said Jeda, opening her right hand, a cutlass sword slinging over to her. She caught the weapon's handle. Maelstrom flicked his wrist, his massive sword swaying in the direction of Jeda.
