Veronica woke up the next morning with a start. She lay in Jack's bed, staring up at the ceiling, trying to make sense of the events of the previous night. It had been wild, intense, and completely out of character for her. She had never let her guard down like that before, especially not with a man she hardly knew.
She turned her head and saw Jack lying beside her, his eyes closed, his breathing slow and steady. He looked peaceful, and for a moment, she felt a pang of envy. How could he sleep so soundly after what they had done?
Veronica quietly slipped out of bed, gathering her clothes from the floor. As she dressed, memories of their night together flooded her mind. She couldn't deny that it had been incredible, but it had also been reckless. She couldn't let herself get too attached to Jack, not when she had a job to do.
As she was about to leave the room, Jack stirred and opened his eyes. He smiled at her, and she felt a flutter in her stomach.
"Good morning," he said, his voice husky.
Veronica couldn't help but smile back. "Good morning," she replied.
They exchanged a few pleasantries before Veronica made her way to the door. Just before she left, Jack spoke up.
"I know we didn't plan on things happening the way they did last night," he said. "But I don't regret it, not for a moment."
Veronica felt her cheeks flush. "Neither do I," she admitted. "But we can't let it cloud our judgment. We still have a job to do."
Jack nodded. "I understand," he said. "But that doesn't mean we can't enjoy ourselves along the way."
Veronica couldn't help but smile again. She knew he was right. She needed to keep her focus, but that didn't mean she couldn't enjoy the moments they had together.
With a final smile, she left the room, her mind racing with thoughts of the man she had just shared an unforgettable night with.
