Veronica's heart skipped a beat at Jack's words. She braced herself for what he was about to say.

"I'm not who you think I am," Jack said, his eyes locked onto hers.

"What do you mean?" Veronica asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

"I'm not just some wealthy man with a dark past," Jack said, his expression serious. "I'm something more."

Veronica's mind raced, trying to figure out what he could be alluding to. Could he be a member of some secret society? Was he involved in some sort of illegal activity?

"Tell me," Veronica urged.

Jack took a deep breath. "I'm a vampire," he said.

Veronica's eyes widened in shock. She had heard of stories of vampires, but she had always believed them to be mere myths.

"You're joking," she said, her voice trembling.

"I assure you, I'm not," Jack said, his face completely serious.

Veronica looked at him, trying to gauge whether or not he was telling the truth. But as she studied his face, she saw something in his eyes that made her believe him.

"I don't understand," Veronica said, her mind spinning. "How is that possible?"

"It's a long story," Jack said, "but the short version is that I was turned into a vampire over a century ago. And since then, I've been living among humans, trying to keep my true nature hidden."

Veronica couldn't believe what she was hearing. She had never believed in the supernatural, but the evidence was right in front of her.

"And the murders?" Veronica asked. "Were they... because of your vampire nature?"

Jack shook his head. "No, I can assure you that I didn't kill those women. I may be a vampire, but I have no desire to harm innocent people."

Veronica was torn between disbelief and fascination. She had never imagined that she would be sitting in the same room as a vampire, let alone sleeping with one.

"But why did you tell me this?" Veronica asked.

"Because I trust you," Jack said, his hand reaching for hers. "And because I think it's time that you know the truth about who I am."

Veronica looked at him, her heart racing. She didn't know what to believe anymore, but one thing was certain: her life would never be the same again.
