The whole Labor Day weekend went by, and now it was Tuesday. Today, the students would learn the results of the school play, and after school, those with roles would stay to rehearse with some students who were playing the kids in the play. Once Margarita and her sisters got to school, she excitedly met up with her friends.
"Oh, I thought the weekend would never end," Margarita sighed. "It was so long, I already colored in half my sketchbook."
"That's nothing," Jade scoffed. "I watched five movies on Disney+ the whole weekend."
"And I finished ¾ of my word search book," Clio said.
"Well, the weekend is over, and today, we're going to learn the results of the play," Margarita said.
"Oh, I look forward to knowing who's playing what roles even though Clio and I already know we're helping with costumes," Jade said.
Soon enough, the school day started, and the students were in the gym, anxious to learn who would be playing who.
"Okay, boys and girls, I know you're all anxious to learn the results of the school play, so I won't keep you in suspense," Mrs. Thomas announced. "Okay, the dual roles of Pedro Madrigal and Mariano Guzmán will be played by Enrique Mendoza!"
Enrique was pleased to be playing these two roles. After all, Mariano almost looked like Pedro. He went down to accept his script.
"The duals of Isabela and young Alma Madrigal will be played by Olga Martinez," Mrs. Thomas continued.
The students cheered. Margarita was happy for her oldest sister. It was pretty funny because Isabela looked almost exactly like Abuela Alma as a young woman. Olga went down to accept her script.
"The role of Luisa Madrigal will be played by Rafa Martinez," Mrs. Thomas announced.
It seemed pretty funny how Margarita's sisters would be playing Mirabel's sisters. The role of Agustín went to Victor, Charlotte would be playing Osma Pezmuerto, Karlene would be playing Dolores, etc.
"The role of Mirabel Madrigal will be played by...," Mrs. Thomas began.
Amber proudly sat in her seat as she heard this, and she got up, ready to accept the role only to hear that it was won by...
"...Margarita Martinez!" Mrs. Thomas finished. "Congratulations, Margarita!"
Amber gasped upon hearing this, and Margarita was surprised. Everyone in the gym cheered loudly. Margarita went down to accept her script, and her sisters ran up and hugged her tightly. Amber couldn't believe that she lost the lead to Margarita.
"The role of Abuela Alma goes to Amber Bishop!" Mrs. Bishop finished.
Amber was dismayed, and she didn't know what was worse: losing the lead to Margarita or not playing the lead at all. She hoped Mrs. Bishop would see that she made a mistake. She went down and said, "Mrs. Bishop, there's been a mistake. Everyone knows that I was supposed to play Mirabel Madrigal. I'm obviously perfect for the lead, don't you think?"
"Afraid not, Amber," Mrs. Thomas replied. "Your audition wasn't really that good. Now I suggest you practice your role thoroughly."
Amber was dismayed that she didn't get the lead, and she didn't understand why. She turned to see Margarita with her sisters, and she shot the girl a jealous glare.
Once the students had their roles, they were just about ready to go back to their homerooms when Mrs. Thomas stopped Margarita and Enrique.
"Margarita, Enrique, can I talk to you both for a minute?" Mrs. Thomas asked.
