I knelt down on the grass, taking in the view.
We're finally here. The Pokémon league.
Red roof tiles were shined upon by the setting sun, tracing a soft shadow across the field. The rush of the waterfall behind me more than made up for the silence. Stone bricks lined each tower of the castle, paving a bittersweet story of how it came to be.
"Kind of like us, isn't it?" Cynthia's voice carried through the breeze, smiling at the grand display.
"Yeah." It was all I could say. Speechless, I believe, was the word. Being away from her for so long was... strange. I had the urge to sit down and just tell her about everything I went through.
"Want to tell me something, [Y/N]?" She sat down next to me, plopping her backpack on the grass. "It seems like a good time, hehe."
"I got plenty of things to tell you about, Cynthia," I took out an Old Gateau from my bag. "I hope you've got plenty to tell me, too."
We chatted over our experiences on Victory Road, laughing at how things went. The battles, getting lost in caves, fighting wild Pokemon. Truth be told, I felt a little awkward because of what happened before. But Cynthia seemed happy as she usually was.
"It's a little late, but I, uh, need to ask you something." I struggled to get the words out.
Couple fights aren't easy to resolve.
"If this is about our argument, then it's fine, [Y/N]," she sighed, "besides, it's normal for people to have a falling out from time to time."
"Normal doesn't make it okay, Cynthia." I shook my head, "I said some things I regret back there, and I shouldn't have. Sorry."
"If you're going to apologize, at least mention what you're apologizing for," she gave me a poke on the shoulder. "Right, Garchomp?"
The humongous shark growled at me in annoyance.
"Fine. I'm sorry I pushed you away. Because I was jealous. And felt insecure."
"About?" She raised her eyebrow sarcastically.
"Urgh. About how talented you are at Pokemon battling." I rubbed my face and turned away.
Instead of a laugh, I got a hug from behind; she squeezed the lights out of me. I panicked and dropped 2,548 Pokedollars... I blacked out!
Just kidding. If only that could ease my nerves for what she said next.
"How many times do I have to tell you?" She grumbled under her breath. "It doesn't matter if you don't feel like you're good enough. It doesn't matter how weak you think you are.
You're someone I love. That's enough reason for me not to leave you behind."
I hung my head. That was the first time I've finally let go of the tension since our battle with Steven and Mr. Alder. It felt like I could finally breathe again.
Just to be scolded by a pouting girlfriend. "And you're not even weak! You helped me with Cyrus, fought against Alder, and even stared down Giratina in the Distortion World! Come on. You're not weak, okay?"
"Yeah, okay, I get it. But then explain why I couldn't beat Steven! And as for Giratina, I only held him back for a minute or two! You did most of the bargaining with Dialga-"
