#Narrated
Pelo and his dad arrived home and Pelo's mom was cooking up a feast celebrating that her son was safe. They walked into a lovely aroma of roasted chicken and a mixture of spices and other dishes. Pelo was a rich kid that was humble - no one really knew about his background until they went over to his house. His parents owned one of the most expensive houses in Midrand. He lived in a glass double storey with a pool. They were in the big Motaung kitchen. It was a dark brown colour with a touch of white. There were two, long counterparts with brown, marble countertops and a metre in width of walking space between them. One had two sinks with a tap each and the other with a built-in gas stove. Next to it there were cupboards and six ovens. The fridge was on the left along with the rest of the built-in cupboards.
"I missed you so much my boy" his mom buried herself in his arms and he was just as happy to be in her's except that she was squeezing him.
"ouch ma...you're squeezing the living lights out of me" he complained and she let go,"I'm sorry son"
"what really happened?" she asked as she led them to the living room.
"his girlfriend got abducted as they were from an ice cream shop, so we had to go and get her-" his dad explained before him and his mom cut him off.
"you have a girlfriend and I don't know about her?!" she opened her eyes wide and Pelo sighed and shrugged and as he was to explain further...
"yes...let me finish. So the kidnappers didn't want to let her go or her dad dies and that's when the shooting started" his dad explained on his behalf once again.
"oh my...is she alright?" his mom asked with concern looking at Pelo.
"yes mom...I literally took a bullet for her, and good thing it's a graze" he side smiled and his dad left them alone.
"she's one lucky lady. Tell her to come over for Lunch on Saturday, and I'm not taking no for an answer" she gave him a naughty smile. "let me see your wound"
"um...she already took care of it, but I'm going to need the First Aid kit to disinfect it until it heals" he blushed as he said that and quickly went back to his straight face before his mom could notice.
His mom saw how inlove he was but decided not to question him until she met the girl.
"where are the boys?" Pelo asked.
"upstairs in their room, probably playing video games" she shook her head and told him where the First Aid was then left to tend to her pots while Pelo headed upstairs to his bedroom locking his door behind him then he went to take a shower. Afterwards he called Mbali."nunukie" he said when she answered his call.
"um...hey Pelo" she giggled.
"so you love the name?" he smirked.
"pshh nah...I'm kidding, it's cute"
He chuckled,"okay nunukie. My mom said I should invite you over for lunch on Saturday"
Mbali went quiet as shock and many other emotions filled her mind.
"nunu...are you still there?" he asked and she let out a fake laughter.
"uh...yes. Why was I invited?" she managed to ask.
"she probably wants to see the person I risked my life for (he chuckles) it's not a big deal because you'll be meeting your friend's parents right?" Pelo was using her words against her and it really worked because at that moment Mbali realised that she wanted more than that and it was gonna be pretty awkward at the lunch because wherever they went, Pelo showed his affection towards her. So it wasn't hard to see the level of chemistry they shared. She got out of her thoughts..."well yes...I'll be there, but what time though?"
"be ready by 1pm, I'll come and fetch you. Just text me your address" he replied.
"how's the wound?" she asked and Pelo felt his heart get warm. She cared alot and that was one of the many things he liked about her.
"nothing a few weeks could fix (he chuckled) though it's a bit painful"
"sorry...you'll be alright my lo-...Thapelo. My mom's calling, we'll chat later. Bye"
she hung up before he could reply and feeling embarrassed about almost callimg Pelo her 'love'. She threw her face on the pillow and screamed the anger she had for herself...her mouth had betrayed her.Whilst Pelo was taken aback by what he heard and her reaction afterwards that he smiled to himself...'that was something' he thought to himself.
#Baki's P.O.V
I was so relieved when Mbali texted me amd told me she was safe and I thought of visiting her sinve it was Friday and I had morning classes, so I was free for the rest of the day. I also couldn't wait to see the look on her face when she saw me at her doorstep. I was wearing my black, pleated suspender skirt (dungaree) with a short-sleeved, white t-shirt underneath with accessories and my black ankle boots.
I grabbed my red sling bag along with the shopping bag filled with snacks that I bought yersterday after finding out about Mbali's dilemma so that I could cheer her up when she came back. Because I knew she would. I left and headed to the taxi rank then searched for taxis that were going to Lenasia and sat down happily as soon as I did. But once I noticed that I was the only one, I moved to the back seat in the right corner next to the window and heaved a huge sigh. It's going to be a really long day. I thought to myself as I plugged in my airpods and listened to music so much that 45 minutes passed and I wasn't aware until there was a tap on my side of the window. I took off one airpod and furrowed my eyebrows.
"sisi, uqinisekile ukuthi usetekisini elilungile? (sis, are you sure you're in the right taxi?)" he asked and I nodded.
"I was told this taxi is going to Lenasia...is that so?"
"yes, my sister. And it takes long to get full"
"but I've been here for more than an hour and I'm going to be late. Can you please call the driver for me?" he said okay before leaving and I got busy on my phone.
"sawubona sisi, ngizwe ukuthi uyangibiza (hello sis, I heard you were calling me)" I lifted my head from my phone and I saw this hot familiar, caramel-skinned guy standing by the door. I cleared my throat as soon as I got back to my senses and realized that I was staring.
"ahem...um...I just wanted to know how long this taxi takes to get full because it's been over an hour and I'm getting late"
"I was about to drive you to your destination because today has been a slow day" he said with a smile,"come and sit in the front so you can give me clear directions"
Usually I'd take my stuff and request an Uber but I could tell that I knew him from campus and he looks like a good guy and I just couldn't resist his hotness so I took a mini risk as I hopped into the front seat of the Toyota Quantum. He started the engine and off we went.
"so where are you going?" he asked.
"to my friend's house...I've never really been there so here's the address" I showed him the address on my phone and after analyzing it like it was some treasure map of some sort "I may know where that is...the only thing that will be a bit of a problem will be the house number, but relax" he said with a smirk.
"you look familiar by the way" he said as he glanced at me before looking back to the road before us.
"I was actually about to say the same...you study at Witbankersridge?" I raised an eyebrow.
"oh yess...so that's where I've seen you" we both laughed a little, "I'm Manqoba by the way" he said.
"and I'm Obakeng...so you live around here?" I asked.
"yep"
"and you're a taxi driver?"
"not really, my dad is a taxi owner and me driving the taxi is actually a punishment" he said with a low chuckle.
"I wonder what you did..." I shook my head.
"I blew 62K in a day with a close friend and before you ask me how...we threw a crazy party to a point where we were all over social media and he saw it..I'm sure you saw it too" he explained and I was just shocked.
"I heard about it...I just didn't know the full details and the host" I giggled.
He slowed down,"and we have arrived"
"thanks" I took out money from my purse,"here"
"no thank you...you can keep it. I was bored anyway and you were great company" he gave me a warm smile. I hopped out.
"thanks...you're not so bad yourself" I smiled too.
"can I please have your number?" he gave me puppy eyes and I fell for it and gave him. We said our goodbyes and he left.
