Chapter 28 - Her First Kiss

Days have been passing by slowly for Mbali because as each day passes, the more she misses Pelo. He hasn't texted her ever since the lunch and it had been two weeks since she had seen him around campus. It was a Thursday and she had just gotten out of class. She went to her room and Baki wasn't there, so she left her bag and locked. She had gathered the strength and courage to confront Thapelo. She was now at his doorstep knocking and his roommate opened the door.

"hi" he said.
"hey, is Thapelo here?"
"yes (turns around) Thaps, someone's here for you" he said after letting her in. Then he left her there without saying anything else.

So rude of him. She thought to herself and Thapelo appeared, expressionless.

"hey" she forced a smile and her nerves creeped in.
"hey" he answered and opened the door and stepped outside so they could have privacy.
"okay firstly, I would like to apologize for my childish behaviour towards you..." she was fidgeting with her fingers and her eyes were on the floor whilst Pelo was happy that she came around, finally...but he couldn't show her that. Atleast not now because he wasn't even sure what she came there for.
"how so?" he looked at her still expressionless.
"for pushing you away and for accusing you for having an influence in your family's input about us and also for the last fight we had" she continued.
"apology accepted, is that all?" Mbali felt her heart shatter into a million little pieces. Maybe he had moved on. She thought and she knew she had to now tell him the real reason she came.
"no. (clears throat) and uhm...I think I like you?"she said it in a question rather than a statement and Pelo chuckled then she felt dumb.
"oh...I'm sorry. I should leave-" she turned, walking away with tears threatening her eyes. Pelo pulled her arm bringing her close to him and wiped away her tears that were now streaming down her pink cheeks. He put his index finger on her chin making her face him amd his other hand was on her waist.
"I love you more, angel" he pulled her in for a kiss before she could say anything.
Mbali was clueless about kissing since this was her first, but Pelo was slow and being the fast learner that she is, they got in sync quicker than usual. It was like they were used to kissing, like their hearts and souls were connecting. After what felt like a lifetime for the both of them, they broke the kiss and gazed into each other's eyes until Mbali got shy and looked away.
"so...we're dating?" she played with her fingers and Pelo enjoyed the sight in front of him.
"yes, nunukie" he took her hand in his and led them to his car.

"so...where are we going?" she asked looking out the window.
"the mall" he answered after stealing a glance of his nunukie then turned to look at the road. "and before you ask to do what...you'll see" she nodded and they arrived at the mall. They went to Mr Price Home and Pelo started picking out picnic equipment : a big basket and a mat and an ice bucket.
"oh...I see" she sqinted her eyes at him with a knowing look.
"took you long enough" he teased her and she punched his shoulder.
"ouch, nunu I'm still healing" he whined and she rubbed him on his wound.
"sorry, I forgot" she whispered.
They then headed to Pick 'n Pay to buy the snacks then its liquor store to buy champagne and lastly to buy food.
"so what do you want to eat?" he asked her.

"what are your expectations from me in our relationship?" he asked her. Pelo knew that he had to take things slow with Mbali and he wanted to know how to love her the way she wanted to be loved.

They were now in the middle of the park, with everything set out romantically and beautifully. Pelo sat with one knee up and the other leg laid flat for Mbali to rest her head on.
"patience...you know I'm new to dating and I'd really need you to be patient with me because I have alot to learn and for us to please take things one step at a time" she replied and he nodded.
"I hear you babe. What else? I know there's more" then he chuckled. Mbali thought for a moment before she answered.
"well I value honesty alot, also communication and effort is important as well. You babe?" she replied with a smile and Pelo's heart melted at the 'you babe?' part so much that he kissed her passionately.
"I'm still waiting for my answer" she said after they broke the kiss.
"oh...it slipped my mind for a moment. I expect you to be loyal to me, communicate and never stop loving me" he smirked and she rolled her eyes.
"too easy. Can I have chocolate?" Pelo chuckled and he took out the slab of chocolate from the basket on his side and started feeding her.
They took pictures, packed up and left. They were now driving back to campus when Pelo decided to make a stop at their favourite ice cream shop Milky Cream Delights. He left her in the car and came back with his hands full so Mbali had to open the door for him.
"this is yours" he handed her a 2 litre tub of blueberry cheesecake ice cream and a strawberry cone ice scream.
"I thought I told you to buy me a 500 ml tub though" she giggled.
"we both have the same obsession, so I know you're going to want more" he kissed her cheek and sje blushed. He then started the engine.
"you're something else Thapelo handsome face Motaung" she said and he blushed and chuckled.
"so you're giving me a middle name now? And you think I'm handsome too?" he asked with a smirk.
"why shouldn't I give you one? And yes...you're handsome" she mumbled the last part and looked out the window whilst licking her ice cream.
"increase the volume babe, I don't think I heard the last part" he smirked and she looked at him.
"you're handsome, babe" she said as she blushed.
"thank you my love. But I'm nothing compared to your beauty" he replied and he kissed her after looking at the road.

They arrived and walked to Pelo's room, hand in hand and also holding their picnic stuff. It was around 4pm and Pelo had planned for them to have dinner together. Pelo opened the door for them and Mbali walked in first. His room was bigger than her's...it looked more like an apartment. It was decorated in grey and white. The walls were white and the furniture was a mixture. It looked so neat and she was impressed.

"simple yet classy, I like it" she commented about his place.
"I'm glad you do, thanks babe" he placed the picnic stuff on the kitchen counter and put the ice cream tubs in the fridge. He washed his hands in the sink then he took out stewing beef and veggies from the fridge and defrosted the meat whilst chopping. Mbali walked into the kitchen.
"I was wondering where you disappeared to...babe you can cook?!" she was shocked to see him professionally chopping with an apron and focused on what he was doing.
"yes babe (chuckles) I did online culinary classes two years ago. Cooking is one of the things I enjoy doing" he smiled and Mbali got more impressed.
"here I was thinking I knew everything about you" she giggled.
"you're getting there babe" he winked.
"it's a beautiful surprise. Can I help?" she asked.
"you can relax babe, just watch your man cook for you" he winked and they both laughed.

Within an hour he was done preparing the meal. He had cooked rice and beef stew. He put their food on the coffee table along with their apple juices.
"m-m-m...this tastes heavenly" she closed her eyes as she took a spoon of the food and Pelo smiled.
"thank you my love"
"I'll have to get used to the perks of dating a chef. I feel so lucky right now" she squinted her eyes and he laughed at her dramatic self.
She rinsed their dishes and he accompanied her to her room. He kissed her and left.
"what?!" Baki shrieked. Mbali had told her that she had started dating Pelo.
"we had a picnic date and he cooked dinner for us" she blushed.
"I'm sooo happy for you guys...I've been waiting for this day" she hugged her. "and you know I want to hear everything" they both laughed.
"of course...how could I forget?" Mbali giggled then started telling her best friend about her first day with her boyfriend.
"he's so sweet and crazy about you to think that he just decided on a picnic date right after y'all started dating says alot about his intentions about you" Baki said with a warm smile and Mbali blushed.
*phone beeps*

"ooh...that blush. Let me see" Baki shrieked and Mbali showed her their pictures along with the text.
