The Girl In The Bakery
Alice was staring at the oven, watching this particular batch of muffins finish baking. She waited patiently until she deemed it patient enough and opened the oven to pull out the baked goods five seconds early. Alice placed the tray of four muffins on a counter and removed her mittens to start applying the seasoning.
Alice was a grown woman who was currently wearing a plain baking apron. She had dark skin and bright pink hair. Despite what many customers assume, her hair color isn't artificial, though she has wondered if she should dye her hair at all.
ding-a-ling. While seasoning the third muffin, Alice heard what sounded like a miniature bell ringing to her right. Alice didn't need to look to see that it was the bakery's own little pet, Misha the pixie cat.
Pixie cats are small. Like, freakishly small. Like, "takes up one space on a game board," small. Misha in particular was white as a snowflake and wore a little leaf cape that Eugene made for her. Also, that ding-a-ling noise? Misha doesn't wear a bell, that just the noise she makes. Alice dared to glance at the small creature, and the creature in question was staring at the muffins four times bigger than itself with great hunger.
"Misha," Alice warned her tiny friend. "Don't you dare."
That wasn't enough to stop Misha from doing anything. Misha made a quick and surprising long jump for the muffins. Alice simply stretched out her fingers on her right hand to stop Misha, and now the tiny cat is floating (and slowly spinning) in mid-air, held by Alice's levitation magic.
"Look at what you made me do," Alice said while finishing the last muffin. "What do you have to say for yourself?"
Ding-ding. Misha gave Alice a deep stare before her body spun around to where she can't stare anymore.
Alice sighed and rolled her eyes. "Those muffins just came out of the oven ya know. You could've burnt your tongue." She moved the greedy pixie cat over a cardboard box and simply dropped her in. Alice grabbed the box and held it under her arm as she carried her batch of muffins to the front counter.
"Muffin refill!" Alice called out to her employees, which today only consisted of Eugene, a skinny guy dressed in pretty much all black. From his hair to his boots, the guy's got a whole goth theme going on. If Alice had to be honest, Eugene, just on his appearance alone wouldn't be the first hire she got to help her out in the bakery. Hell, since he got hired, Alice has been pushing him to wear an appropriate attire that would be a bit more "welcoming" to guests. But Eugene was a surprisingly good baker, and a really cool dude once you actually start talking to him.
"Great," Eugene responded once he saw Alice come in with the muffins. He took them from her and started placing them into a display basket on the front counter. "Y'know, I could've done the baking while you set up the counter."
"Probably should've," Alice stated in a slightly frustrated tone. She presented the cardboard box to Eugene. Looking in, Eugene saw Misha staring up with the widest eyes her tiny head could muster. The cardboard box itself is decorated with doll sized furniture and tiny toys and the walls of the box is dotted with little holes and claw marks of previous escapes from this makeshift room Misha made.
