hey, hello there :)
i would like to give all of you a bit of a warning. this book will be rather triggering. there will be constant mentions of eating disorders, and possibly even self-harm. if you are sensitive to those kinds of things you may not want to continue on with reading this, and that is perfectly fine.
also, another thing. if you are anorexic or bulimic, then you know what i am talking about throughout the book, such as 'ana' and 'mia' and how there might be the feeling of someone inside of your head, tracking and criticising your moves. but if you are not aware of these things, let me enlighten you.
☆ the term 'ana' is used for 'anorexia'. those who are anorexic likely see 'ana' as more of a physical person than a state of mind or even (i hate this word) a disease. ana is your role model, your guide, your helper. she will get you through tough times, and remind you of your goal if you stray off of your path to being thin.
☆ the term 'mia' is used for 'bulimia'. she is the equivalent of ana, however, she might encourage you to eat that brownie, or to buy those marshmallows from the supermarket, only to shame you and cause you to purge all of it right back up.
☆ bulimia nervosa is an eating disorder where one binges profusely, though they immediately self-loathe themselves for it and do not want to gain any more weight. not only is it a fear of what food might do to you physically, but it is a mental state in which the host points out every flaw and they will constantly think of ways to rid themselves of it.
☆ anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder where obsesses about their weight and eating habits. it becomes an everyday task to count every single calorie, every single gram of fat, and reducing themselves to vlcd (very low calorie diets) in order to lose more weight. they may take laxatives and diuretics to get rid of unnecessary water and salt, as well as making it easier for one to drop their weight (i.e., making them use the loo more often to cleanse the body of unneeded calories).
☆ 'purge'. you will hear this word rather frequently. it basically means to cleanse something, so for example if someone says, "oh, my god, i shouldn't have eaten that jelly doughnut earlier on...i have to go purge" they are meaning to vomit in hopes of ridding themselves of the calories and fat in whatever they had eaten.
☆ 'binge'. it's more likely that you have heard this word. it means to do something in excessive amounts, typically alcoholic drinking and eating. in this case it means excessive eating. 'when you 'binged' on those oreos at midnight, you probably had an upset stomach afterwards because of all the sugar you had consumed in such little time.'
okay, i think that's all. also: i know that neither blessing nor troye have eating disorders. i am not trying to imply anything by writing this fanfic. honestly, i am writing this because it is easier for me to picture people i already know as my main characters rather than making my own. i could make my own characters. i do make my own characters. i have just chosen not to include them here.
also, promotion.
go buy 'trxye' on itunes or in any physical shop.
go follow @troyesivan and @blessingxaba and @tyleroakley on twitter. you won't regret it.
aaaaaaaand last thing:
i, currently, am anorexic. i am not ashamed of it. it's who i am, and i perfectly fine. i'm planning to not become too small, i know what i am doing and i'm aware that this is something fatal. but don't worry. if it gets to be too much, i will stop immediately.
with all of that said, i love all of you very much, and i hope you find this book informing and perhaps even entertaining (well that seems a bit sadistic, considering this is about eating disorders).
