"listen up," the teacher said, making the whole room fall silent. there really was something different about the air on the fourth floor.
"this is a new addition to the class who will be joining us for this term as a test to see how well his skills match up with our current education system. though he is slightly younger, do treat him with as much respect as anyone else. now," he gripped the ravenette's shoulder just a little tighter, "would you like to introduce yourself, son?"
fuck.
yes, donghyuck had indeed been on the verge of a mental breakdown the entire time that he stood there. sure, the students hadn't been sending glares at him or anything like that, but even the friendly smiles at him felt like all it took was a single second before they would devour him like a school of hungry piranhas.
i must look like such a nerd to them right now, donghyuck thought, eyes scanning the room. who will be my biggest predator? is there anyone who i can befriend? wait- who the hell would befriend a junior like me?? never mind, on to plan b. shit, of course i didn't make a plan b, i'm donghyuck for god's sake!
he gulped, taking in their appearances. why did it suddenly feel like puberty was taking an extra long amount of time with him? not to mention the way everyone wore their uniforms. no wonder mark never wore his the way donghyuck and his other friends did.
his hand itched to pull down his tie, just a little. not only so that he wouldn't look as completely out of place as he already did—everyone had at least one button from their shirt undone and most of their ties were loose, their blazers were almost all discarded, and their shirts weren't even tucked in—but also so that he could breathe, because he was pretty sure at the moment that he looked like some suffocating chicken with the way he was starting to sweat, and struggle to allow air into his lungs.
then, like an angel on earth, donghyuck met eyes with mark who sat on the far left side of the room, in the very back row, next to the window. for that short moment, the blond smiled at him, cheekbones growing even more defined, and eyes sparkling. when he shook his head, letting the hair fall over his face before fixing his bangs, donghyuck swore he was in a magical trance.
of course, with his luck, the second things were calming down, and he was starting to feel that maybe he would actually be alright, everything had to come crashing down. son, the teacher had called him.
"dad i-"
"don't call me that!"
"no, no, no."
"i'm sorry father, bu-"
"i am not your father either! you're embarrassing."
"i know i am, i know."
"i'm sorry..."
"you don't have a family and you never will. no wonder you were left in an orphanage. i'd kill myself if i had a biological son like you."
"i'm not your son, don't call me that!!!"
fuck.
the complete silence after told him how badly he had just messed up. hot tears gathered at his eyes, but he was refusing to let them fall. don't be a crybaby, idiot. you're better than this!
remember the supposed angel on earth? yeah, one look at mark's confused and concerned face, and the lump in his throat couldn't be ignored anymore. his cheeks were wet in seconds and his vision blurry, yet he still managed to push past the teacher and out of the classroom.
