As summer and fall gave way to winter, Nyr realized he had overstayed his welcome.

It was the middle of the night. The city was icy, covered in snow from the previous storm. Sitting at his desk, Nyr wrote a letter under the light of his lamp.

Tillaeya, why must you perpetuate my suffering? he thought, closing the letter with a ribbon. Cloak over his shoulder and bag on his back, he left the inn.

He ran across to the roofs, reaching the window of Kiki's room on the bakery's second floor. She woke up, having heard a knock on her window and grabbed the pan by her bedside. But as her vision cleared up, she realized it was Nyr. She opened the window.

"I'm the last person you should do this to," she said, twirling her pan. "I could've sacked you into the next era."

"I was in a hurry; I'm sorry."

"Apology accepted." She invited him in, be he shook his head.

"I must leave. I've been spotted."

"They cleared you each inspection. What are you talking about?"

"The guards have been talking...and I've seen them giving us glances. I should leave while suspicions are low."

Kiki nervously bit her lip, looking down. "Can I come with you?"

"It's too dangerous. And I can't have you leave your mother."

"Even if I bring my pan?"

Nyr chuckled, "Even if you bring your pan...Here, for you."

"There better not be a confession in this," she frowned.

"You'll be disappointed to know there is," he replied, removing his necklace. He placed it in Kiki's hand and closed the fist. Kissing her fingers, he whispered, "Remember me."

Kiki was strong-minded and very stubborn. She never cried. But for this man, she could feel her eyes water intensely.

"I won't, Nyr."

He softly kissed her cheek and fled. He called for nature to create more crystals, and it snowed, covering his tracks. He escaped the capitol, vanishing into the night, never to be seen again.

As the days passed, the guard reported his disappearance to the king, who sent them out to search for him. They looked through all buildings he entered and everyone he encountered, which included the bakers.

"What do you mean 'you know we're hiding him'? Am I supposed to be in your head?"

"Miss Kiki, Marlie has been spotted at this bakery often since he came to the capitol," a guard reminded her. "We have suspicions that he was a Fae. We are asking you to bring him out."

Kiki sighed, keeping up her act. "Look, I don't know what to tell you. Feel free to search the place, but you won't find anything except baking ingredients and a few rats if you're lucky."

The guards showed disgust and walked past her, searching the premises. Indeed, they found no more than what she stated.

"It seems Tillaeya is on your side," one of the guards said, passing her.

"Have a nice day, little shits!" she exclaimed, waving with a bright smile. She closed the door and exhaled, looking at the paper and necklace concealed under a dirty towel in her apron pocket.

Thank Tillaeya, I hid his things in my apron this morning.

She shook her head and started her batch of dough. Life didn't stop for things like this.
