The centre stage, blinding lights and orchestral ambiance livening the evening of the children and elderly alike was their life. It was their entity as a performer.

Others imagined white tops with black overalls, a beret, and the joker's makeup routine. They saw a sea of clouds above a hellscape—a flood of purity sitting atop humanity's immorality.

"Will you be performing today?" a woman asked. A figure sat at their desk, scarf around their neck. Their silk nightwear made their pale complexion shine even brighter. Their hands lightly trembled as they turned to the next page of their book.

With one hand, they signed, 'I'm tired. Perhaps another day.'

"Your fans will be worried if you cancel a third show." Sophie, their manager, was always protective of their young talent and their health. But their unstable condition had made their career difficult. Today, they woke up barely able to stand without fainting.

'I am too weak today and my head is far from clear.' Closing their book, they turned to Sophie, whose eyes were full of worry. They smiled in reassurance and she left to advise the organizers. She left the door open, allowing air to flow past them to the big sliding doors. They closed their book, following the breeze to the blinds. Made of thin white lace, they flew toward them, calling them to step outside.

They stood slowly, holding onto their desk to ease the pressure on their head. A vignette seeped around their vision as their head filled with heat. They stood still, letting the malaise pass, and the world cleared up. They took a few slow steps, standing by the open glass doors.

It's cold, they realized, wanting to reach for the soft duvet hooked on the back of their chair.

"Miss sophisticated Sophie wouldn't be happy to find you outside."

They smiled, laughing a soundless giggle. Seconds later, a person, gigantic compared to their small frame, embraced them from behind.

"Sophie told me you were recently ill and have yet to recover."

Their mood soured, lips turning to a frown. They moved away, only to feel the cold come stronger than before. A shiver crawled through their core muscles.
