Prologue
Brianna Was wandering around the cabin. Her brother Jay had passed out from the exhaustion of having all their friends in one place. She hadn't seen the others for a while though. She looked around looking for some clue to where everybody went. Then she saw the note on the counter. Hattie, meet me upstairs I want to show you something, Martin. Oh no, Brianna thought. What had her sister gotten into. Her twin Hattie was soft spoken and shy. The others knew not to make her upset for they were all scared of the wrath of Brianna and Jay. But the others also knew that far as they were concerned Brianna was locking doors and Jay was passed out on the couch in the den. She Cursed under her breath
"Oh Hattie!" Brianna sighed "What have you gotten yourself into" if anything happened to her sister, she and her friends were going to have some words. She opened the hall door and ran upstairs. She walked into a bedroom and saw all her friends in Shock.
"WHAT HAPPENED!?" Brianna yelled. "WHERE IS MY SISTER?" Then Sage ran in.
"Guys! Hattie just ran out the door without a coat or anything!" Sage said. Brianna turned around.
"I have to go find her" she said. "And when I get back, we are going to talk. How many times have I told you to just leave Hattie alone!?" And with that she ran for the stairs with Sage close behind. She grabbed her coat and ran out the door.
"I'll go left you go right" Brianna told Sage. And with that they split up. Brianna wasn't too concerned about getting hurt. Her parents owned the mountain and had done careful animal removal and the only thing that could hurt her was the cold and the tree roots. That could be avoided with her coat and her phone flashlight. She ran through the woods.
"Hattie!?" Brianna Yelled "Hattie WHERE ARE YOU?" Soon she heard Sage.
"SHE"S OVER HERE BRI!" Brianna ran over.
"Oh My Gosh" She panted "Take my Coat Hattie and tell me What were you thinking!? Running out here alone? You could have died! You know how there are those old mines underneath us! What is you had fallen? What if you froze to death out here?" Hattie stood there for a moment and then looked up.
"I'm sorry Bri" she cried "The others just know how scared I am of well...loud noises and jump scares and they were getting tired of being able to prank everybody but me" Then Hattie turned around and screamed. Sage and Brianna turned around as well
"WHO THE HECK IS THAT!?" Screamed Sage.
"HOW SHOULD I KNOW" yelled Brianna. "WE WERE SUPPOSED TO BE ALONE THE DEED IS IN THE GRACE NAME! NOBODY ELSE SHOULD BE UP HERE!"
"H-hey g-guys?" Hattie stuttered.
"The guy has a flame thrower, m-maybe w-we s-should r-r-run?!" And with that the girls took off into the woods.
"WE HAVE TO LOSE HIM!" Yelled Sage. "WE DONT NEED HIM BURNING THE WHOLE HOUSE DOWN WITH EVERYONE INSIDE!"
"HOW ABOUT WE SPLIT UP THEN!?" Brianna yelled back. With that Sage took the next left and Brianna and Hattie kept going straight. They heard the flamethrower and felt the heat at their backs.
"Just keep running," Brianna told Hattie. They then saw Sage's shadow in the trees.
"Guys we have a problem" Sage said "The cabin is behind us, and the only place left for us to go is the cliff which is right in front of us. It goes all the way to the mines. There is no way we would survive the fall." Hattie looked pale
"Then what do we do?" She cried "We have to make it back or the others won't know" The girls then ran across the bridge. Brianna tried to pull out her phone but dropped it between the logs of the bridge.
"DANG IT" yelled Brianna "unless anyone else brought their phone we have no way to call for help. She looked at Sage and Hattie who shook their heads. They were now backed up to the cliff side. Sage ran alongside the cliff and looped around behind flamethrower man. Brianna and Hattie backed up a few steps. They felt the cliff at their heels. Then the rocks beneath them gave way and Brianna and Hattie screamed. Brianna grabbed a vine and Hattie's hand.
"Don't let go," Brianna told Hattie as she clung to the ledge
Brianna felt her grip slipping. She was dimly aware of Hattie's cries and Sage's screams to hold on. And she still felt her grip slipping. She was also aware of her burning right hand on the ledge. Suddenly she felt her left hands grip on Hattie failing. Then she heard a crash. From above
"SAGE?!" She cried "SAGE? ARE YOU STILL THERE" she tried to pull herself up but couldn't with her burned hand that was also slipping. She heard the movement above. She could only hope that it was Sage, and she was coming to help. Then she heard Hattie scream. Hattie now only had one hand hanging on. The other was hanging at her side.
"Brianna?" Hattie had tears streaming down her face. "We aren't going home, are we?"
"We will make it Hattie" Brianna said trying to believe the words herself "I hope we will at least. But she still felt her hand slipping. Then Sage's head peered over the ledge.
"I hear you would like some help?" She said
"Oh, thank goodness Sage" Brianna sighed. "Now hurry up and pull us up" but as she said this Hattie's hand fell and now only Brianna had her hand now.
"NO Hattie, I will NOT drop you" Brianna cried "try to grab my wrist again" but it was too late. As Sage pulled them up Brianna was the only one. They heard Hattie hit the ground.
"NO" Brianna cried "She didn't, I can't lose her" and Brianna burst into tears.
