Your cousin, Phoenix, has been talking to some girl for some time. He seems to love her, because they're getting married this month! You're to officiate the wedding, which is odd because you thought only priests or something could do that. Either way, it should be fun! It's a plane ride over, and you get a week off work. Even better, all of your and Phoenix's childhood friends are gonna be there! Like Larry and Miles and... yea that's about it. He didn't talk to anyone else, now that you think about it.

With a job as a coroner, you get to see a lot of lawyers. Payne, the von Karmas, and even Wright from time to time. The only one that you don't see often is Edgeworth. It's quite odd since he has so many cases, but I guess he sends someone else to get his autopsy reports. He only comes personally to you if he needs the report updated, or to pester you about hurrying up.

~day of flight~

Packing bags was no biggie! You did it the night before, and it wasn't too much. You didn't feel like you left anything at home, and if you did it was probably something the hotel would have anyway. You all met up at Miles's house since it was the biggest.

You stepped into the door, and were greeted by smiles.

"Y/n!" Phoenix stood, hugging you. "It's nice seeing you! How's your life going?"

"Probably better than the people that I have to examine daily." You chuckled.

"That's dark. I see you haven't changed much." Miles walked out of the restroom, drying his hands.

"Ah, and I see you've never changed out of that stupid ass cravat. Talk to me when you get a neck tan." The room laughed with Miles standing there, awkwardly fiddling with his cravat. You actually loved it, but you've bullied him for it since you two were kids so it's just habit. There was a time where he went a whole week without it, and he didn't look the same. You honestly didn't recognize him.

"Yes, yes, very funny. Now, can you change out of that hoodie or are you going to keep it on for another 10 years?" Miles shot back. The room went silent other than Larry and Phoenix cackling. Apparently Miles didn't do the banter with everyone else. It made you feel honored.

"Yeah, yeah. Whatever. Nice to see you Miles! Missed you pestering me in my office!"

"Well, I had important, less interesting things to do."

"Like what? Finish papers that are due next year?" Phoenix chimed in, causing Miles to roll his eyes.

"Wright, you can contribute something snarky when you can lay on your back without your hair keeping your head up." Miles retorted, sitting on the couch. You sat next to him, and a conversation sparked.

You learned a lot about most everyone during that conversation. Dick is the detective of the town. Apparently you saw him in your office a few times. He's quite the airhead, but you can't be mad. He's dumb in a good way, and quite funny too!

Maya Fey is the sister of Mia Fey, someone who you saw often before her passing, and often after. Mia was smart and serious, but her sister... well- she's the opposite. She's goofy and funny, but she's still smart when she wants to be! She takes after her sister in some aspects, and she even channels spirits (though she isn't the best at it yet.)

Then there's Phoenix's fiancé. She's... bland. She didn't talk enough for you to get to know much about her. You're pretty sure you didn't even catch her name. She's blonde with brown eyes, and she likes expensive items. She's absolutely decked out in Fucci, Pendi and Grada. You're almost positive if she had to go for anyone in this room other than Phoenix, she'd pick Miles's wallet.

"Well, we should get going. Our flight will be leaving soon. Does everyone know who they're riding with?" Phoenix asked, standing with his lady on his hip.

You were to ride with Miles, while the other groups ended up with Gumeshoe and Larry riding together, leaving Maya, Phoenix and his fiancé to ride together. You were honestly quite glad. You didn't wanna go with anyone you didn't know too well, and you also wanted someone who could drive with at least a decent amount of sense. (You still get surprised when you remember he swerved to the courthouse)

You moved your bags to Mile's car, sitting in the passenger seat. Miles sat in the drivers seat, pulling out of the driveway. "Is your seatbelt on?" Miles questioned.

"...No." you responded quietly, putting it on.

"Well, as glad as I am for you to trust me behind the wheel, you can never be too careful. We wouldn't want a wedding and a funeral in the same week." He looked over, his cold look warming a bit. You could tell he cared.

You didn't realize how far the airport was from his house. You got bored of the line of trees and looked over at Miles, and boy was that change of scenery needed.

His jaw looked like it was quite literally sculpted by the most caring hands. His eyes were focused intensely on the road as he leaned his arm on the door. One hand was on the wheel with the other supporting his chin. His nose was a soft hook shape with small blemishes the closer you looked. Old acne scars were lightly scattered around his face, and you could only see them if you were really looking. There was a relaxed form to his shoulders as his chest slowly rose and fell with every little breath. He looked perfect.

"Wow..." you muttered, catching the attention of Miles.

"What's wrong? Did anything happen?" Miles looked over at you, showcasing his grey eyes.

"Nothing, we just passed a lot of cows, is all." You lied through your teeth.

"You know, you tense up when you lie, (Y/N)."

You tried to relax, and sure enough you were more tense than ever. "Oh yeah. You told me that when we were younger. I'm still trying to make it less noticeable."

"Well, it's getting better. I almost didn't catch it. What are you lying about anyway?" He questioned.

"There are just a lot of trees on this road.." You lied once more, trying your best to stay relaxed. It got past Miles because he just nodded and went back to driving.
