Boarding the plane was easy. You got a seat next to Miles and some other random guy that seemed like he would sleep the whole ride. The flight would be a whole 12 hours, and you completely knew you were gonna have to awkwardly ask if they could stand up so you could go to the bathroom at least once.
The flight had free movies, though, so you couldn't complain. You could even watch the Lego movie! You decided on something more mature, however, just in case someone watched over your shoulder.

Several hours of comfortable silence pass when finally, Miles speaks "Can you turn on subtitles? I'm not that good at reading lips."
You pause the movie and turn, raising a brow. "You like this kind of movie?"
He simply nods. You didn't even know he liked movies in the first place, let alone a courtroom drama.
You reach, turning on the subtitles. Miles had to lean to see the shared screen, his shoulder brushing against yours. The scene was tense. It was down to the wire in a murder case, not long until the case was over.
The prosecution was definitely winning by a long shot. Beating down the defense with every piece of evidence that was offered in the court. It reminded you a lot of Miles, in a way.

You didn't know when you dozed off, but it had apparently been a few hours. You woke up on Miles' shoulder, his breathing calm and steady. The weight on your head told you he was asleep as well. The movie had turned off a long while ago, the cold black screen had told you that much.
You tried to reach and shake Miles's shoulder, but it's no use. It's slightly out of reach no matter how to try to grab at it. Eventually you give up and just shake his thigh instead, successfully causing him to stir awake.
"Ngh... hm? What do you need?" He asked, the lack of use from his voice causing him to sound significantly more raspy.
"We fell asleep. I don't know for how long, but-"
"3 hours and 25 minutes." He yawned. You furrowed your brow in confusion, and he simply just pointed at the clock at the bottom of the screen.
"Hm.. didn't know there even was a clock on this thing... are you sure it wasn't longer?"
"Don't doubt me so much." He rolled his eyes. "Besides, it doesn't matter any. We should be landing soon."
You simply nod at him, looking around the cabin in boredom. Out of the blue, Miles pulls your face to look at him, wiping your cheek with what feels like a paper towel.
"Miles, what are you-"
"You have something on your face. I'm simply getting it off. Is there something wrong with that?" He lets your face go, signaling he's finished
"I have several issues with it." You mutter.

You step off the plane to be greeted by Phoenix and his Fiancé. You can't read the expression on your cousins face, but you can read that girl's loud and clear. She's eyeing Miles.
"So, uh, Phoenix, how was your flight?" You try and sound genuine, but apparently enough frustration seeped through to alert Miles to hold your shoulder.
"It was..." he looked at his Fiancé who was still ogling Miles. "It was fine. Not much happened. We were in the air, now we're not. Chelsea enjoyed it, though." Finally, a name for her.
"Hey Miles? What's the situation between you and Y/N?" Chelsea blurted out of nowhere
You and Miles share a look of confusion. Then a bit of NVC. He looked at you with confusion. You reciprocated it. He looked over at her quickly. You shrugged at him, and then he finally spoke.
"We've been dating for a while now."
WHAT?
"What?" Phoenix blurts
"What?" Chelsea says through gritted teeth
"...what?" Miles asks
"Oh! Nothing, I was just wondering because of how... close... you two are is all! Nothing too severe."
Nothing too severe? The fact that miles was so comfortable lying so quickly makes you wonder how many cases were fabricated.
Phoenix looks pissed at the both of you. "Miles. Y/n. Can we talk really quick?" He frames it like a question, but the way he's dragging you makes it feel like more of a demand.
"How long has this been going on?" He starts. "Dating for 'a while now'? How long is a while, Miles? How long have you been dating my cousin?"
"Phoenix, relax! I was lying. It meant nothing."
