It'd been about a week since you joined the company, and to your surprise, your probation period had already ended!

"Morning, Kuroo-senpai!"

Not looking up from his monitor, he greeted you back.

"You certainly seem happy today, (l/n). Mind telling your senior why?"

You stretched out your arms as you sat in your chair,
"My probation ended, which means I'll finally get my first assignment soon!"

Thinking about his early days in the company, he smiled,
"You're really fired up about getting an assignment, eh?"

"I mean of course I am! But I do hope it's nothing too hard, I don't want to disappoint anyone,"

"I'm sure you won't,"

Not five minutes later a file was placed on your desk. You looked to the man who put it there, and you could immediately tell he meant business.

"(L/n) (f/n), you ready for your first assignment?"

You nodded eagerly before opening up the file, and the man began to explain.

"You'll be meeting up with a professional athletic trainer tomorrow morning. Think you can handle it?"

You stood up and gave him a salute,
"Yes sir!"

He chuckled nervously,
"Please don't do that. Good luck!"

Kuroo saw you give him an excited look as you handed him the file,
"Iwaizumi Hajime... I think I know him,"

"Really?"

He handed you back the file,
"Not too well though. He's a nice guy though, it should be a piece of cake for you!"

"I sure hope so,"

Reading through the file, you were able to get his contact information and the location you'd be meeting him, which seemed to be his apartment.

You quickly sent him an email confirming the date and place of the meeting, and to your surprise, he replied very quickly.

With everything confirmed, you continued with your preparations, excited for tomorrow.

On your way to the location of meeting, you accidentally bumped into someone, and dropped the file you were holding. The papers littered the ground, and you frantically tried to pick them all up while apologizing.

"I'm so sorry! I wasn't looking where I was going, I got distracted!"

The man chuckled softly, helping you with your papers,
"It's alright. What's got you so distracted?"

"I've gotten my first assignment from work, I'm interviewing this guy, Iwaizumi Hajime, and I'm super nervous about it!"

You continued,
"What if he doesn't like me? What if he thinks I talk weird?!"

He laughed loudly, confusing you.
"I'm sure he wouldn't mind,"

"How can you be so sure about that?"

He gave you a smug look,
"Because I'm Iwaizumi Hajime,"

He extended a hand to you,
"Which means you must be (l/n) (f/n),"

You immediately bursted into an embarrassed blush. That was such a cliched moment! You thought that stuff only happened in fiction!

(I love myself a good cliche)

You nervously shook his hand before he led you to a nearby gym.

You were able to get over your embarrassment, and began with the interview.

"So, what got you interested in your current career?"

He looked off behind you, almost as if he was locating someone,
"I had a friend-we were close, who's dream it was to be a professional volleyball player. I guess I just wanted to be a part of that, I wanted to support him,"

"That's so nice of you! Are you still in contact with that friend?"

His disposition changed, he seemed a bit sadder than before,
"Yes, but definitely not as much as we used to be. People drift apart sometimes,"

You gave him an apologetic look before asking your next question.
"I've heard you've worked with the national volleyball teams, could you talk about your experience with them?"

"They're all nice, albeit they can also be a little too energetic. A good experience overall,"

You scribbled some more things down in your notebook before asking even more questions, then closing the interview with a photo of him.

"That went great! Thank your for the opportunity, Iwaizumi-san,"

"It was my pleasure,"

He watched as you began to pack up all your items, and thought over the interview. For some reason, when you were questioning him, it didn't feel like you were just trying to get answers out of him. You seem genuinely invested in what he had to say, and it felt more like a friendly conversation than anything.

And he decided in that moment that you'd make a great friend.

"I know the interviews over, but what do you say we hang out sometimes?"

You turned to him, seemingly thinking it over. After realizing how hard it is to make friends as an adult, you found no reason to reject his offer.

"That sounds nice, sure! Here's my number,"

You handed him your business card.

You exchanged goodbyes before you made your way back to the office, eager to tell Kuroo all the details of your interview.

You made a new friend! Isn't that great?
