Amber’s Point of View

“Why did our daughter pass out?” Dad asked the person he was talking to.

“Mr. and Mrs. Montemayor, please don’t be surprised.” I slowly opened my eyes to find out who they were talking to.

“Your daughter has Familial Dilated Cardiomyopathy or FDCM.”

“What do you mean?” Mom asked while screaming.

“I know you know what I’m talking about. But I just want to explain it properly and for your deeper knowledge. This Familial Dilated Cardiomyopathy is a disease that can affect both sides of the heart. As the muscles stretches the affected chamber becomes enlarge, making blood pump less efficiently. Where it can become heart failure where the heart failure where the heart can’t pump blood to keep up with the needs of the body. Familial Dilated Cardiomyopathy can cause symptoms such as irregular heartbeat, fatigue, shortness of breath, fainting of swelling of the abdomen and legs Familial Dilated Cardiomyopathy goes undiagnosed and is left untreated it can lead to heart failure and it can lead to early death.” Each letters, and words spoken by the doctor were like needles piercing my heart.

“Is there any treatment for her illness?” I know mom is crying because I can hear her sobs.

“Mr. Montemayor there is no cure for FDCM but most of the symptoms can be controlled by medication and other treatments to help her live for her normal life.” The doctor explained.

“What stage my illness is?” they suddenly turned because of my sudden question, Mom immediately came to my hospital bed and say next to me.

“Amber, don’t worry about that now, just rest. You need to regain your strength.” Mom caressed my hair and kissed my forehead.

“We called Asher so that he knows what happened to you while he was gone.” Dad also came to us and held my hand.

“I’m leaving first, I’ll just come back and check on Miss. Montemayor gain.” We just smiled at him before he left my hospital room. Dad looked at me while squeezing my palm.

“Your mom and I will do everything for you get better. Even if we run out of all the resources our family has, just get better and we’ll be fine.” If I didn’t cry earlier now, I can’t stop it. The tears that I had been holding back suddenly poured out.

“I am very grateful to god because you two are my parents, I am very lucky to have you.” They both hugged me, while they’re hugging me, I felt nothing but joy.

“You just don’t know how much we thank God that you become our daughter, you gave joy and color to your father and to my life. You are the true definition of a perfect daughter. You’re like a precious diamond that we can’t lose.

So, you need to get well, remember you and Asher are still getting married.” Mom even showed me my hand with my engagement ring on.

“If you feel anything else, tell Elaine so that she can call a doctor right away. We will also buy you your favorite food.” They kissed my forehead first before leaving. As soon as they leave and I was just alone inside my hospital room I called Asher so many times but he didn’t answer, I just let him. Maybe his asleep because he was tired from the flight and his problems with their company.
Elaine arrived shortly after with fruits.

“Hi best friend are you okay? Why did you pass out? What did the doctor say?” she asked at the same time.

“I have this disease called Familial Dilated Cardiomyopathy.”  I answered her while just looking at my finger where my engagement ring is.

“What do you mean? I don’t understand you, explain it to me.” I look straight into her eyes.

“Familial Dilated Cardiomyopathy is a heart disease that has no cure. That’s what the doctor said earlier but If I’m not mistaken this disease has a treatment.” I can see in her eyes the sadness and pity for me.

“How did that happen? How did you get that kind of illness?” I just shook my head, because I myself didn’t know where I got it.

“I wanted to tell you something, but not now. You might be stressed. I’ll tell you later when everything is okay and you can handle it a bit.” She put her phone on my hospital bed right next to me then entered the comfort room. Because I was curious about her wall paper I took it.

I almost drooped her cellphone after what I saw, it’s not her wallpaper it’s an Instagram post.
