There's a reason why it's not really...protected because in the words of Y/N L/N, "If I get a hero outfit that's badass and stuff, I wouldn't want to get it destroyed, so I'd rather wear something light." You can imagine the face palming Tony has done to try and convince him to at least wear some protection like everyone else and thankfully he convinced him.
