As soon as she gained consciousness, her body moved automatically. She sat straight, inhaling loudly, gasping for air even, like she was drowning moments ago. The point was that she was. Drowning in the feeling of warmth, the scent of blood and lavender, not being able to feel anything else. After several deep breaths, her eyes finally started to take in the surroundings around her. She wasn't in the forest or her home. She was in a place she had never seen before, but that wasn't the worst thing.
The worst thing was that the whole place smelled like herbs.
Many, so many types, but the one that was ticking Cassandra's nose was lavender. As she swallowed, the familiar taste of blood covered her tongue causing her pupils to dilate in a matter of seconds. Golden eyes started to scan the room, ignoring the furniture around, dried herbs and flowers on the walls, millions of jars on the shelves, and even the cup of liquid on the coffee table next to the couch she was sitting on.
She glanced at the cup again, her nose catching a familiar scent coming from it. Frowning, her mind turned on high alert, she slowly moved around until her feet touched the ground. The fluffy carpet tickled her skin and only then she realized that her feet were bare. Her eyes moved down to her body and in the next seconds, her mind went blank.
Not only her feet were bare. She was naked, fully naked. Bare just like nature created her.In seconds she grabbed the blanket laying on her tights and moved it quickly to her chest while looking around. Being alone in the room with clearly closed doors meant nothing to Cassandra at that moment. She was so confused that she could only blink for some time, squinting her eyes and wrinkling her nose as she moved to her mind palace, to simply think about the whole situation.
A warning growl left her mouth at the memory of hunters, but as quickly as she grew angry, the scent of lavender calmed her down. And she was getting sick of it.
After some time, long minutes that felt like hours, Dimitrescu finally reached the cup. She did that only cause of the hunger that started to grow in her stomach. And the pain caused by the crystallization. Her whole body was itching, feeling like millions of needles were in her skin causing pain with every breath. Her chest, neck, and stomach were places where the crystallization was the worst. Or at least Cassandra thought so.
Her mind went blank again, but this time it was natural for her, as her lips touched the liquid. It was blood, a familiar warm liquid with a heavy metallic taste and ghost of flower flavor. Her eldest sister would say that she was being reckless as she drank the whole cup in one go, but she wasn't there. No one was. And she was hungry.
Before she could react the doors of the room opened widely. Lack of sensitive hearing was one of the side effects of crystallization and starvation, but Cassandra flinched at the sound of cracking wood. Dimitrescu's head turned around with a loud crack, followed by her upper body to simply see better the person behind her.
Cassandra's nose flattered at the sight of the woman, dressed in nothing but a slick nightgown, color matching her lips and eyes. At first, the woman seemed to ignore her, walking towards one of the shelves, taking two jars of some dried herbs, and walking out, this time leaving the doors wide open.
However, Cassandra only manage to wrap the blanket fully around herself, when the woman came back with a tray in her hands. She left the tray on the nearby table, took the jars, and put them in their previous place. Then calmly walked towards the table at the end standing with her back facing Cassandra.
