Julia holds me tight, caressing me, and I feel her breasts against my back. I've eaten too much, gone back for seconds of raclette twice—I thought our guests were going to vomit. Julia didn't let herself be defeated either; I think that's what annoyed them the most.

"Did it go well with the cops?" she asks.

"Yes, I fooled them. Tomorrow morning, I'll put them on the plane, and we'll move on."

"That'sgood. I followed you, listened at the office door, and prepared some tricks when I heard them questioning you. Suddenly, you became indispensable, the reference at McMurdo."

"It was you."

"Yes."

"Glenn, I found him phenomenal. He seemed completely lost."

"Who's Glenn?"

"The guy from HR."

"I don't know him."

"Oh, what an idiot!" I laughed before Julia planted a kiss on top of my head.

"Of course, I went to see Glenn. He was afraid he had gone too far with the morgue incident."

"It was brilliant. I think that's what finished them off. Damn it, my scar is itching."

Julia delicately runs her nails around and over it before wrapping her arms around me.

"Thank you, Julia."

"Anything you want, my love. I understand."

"Tell me, have you made a decision? When do you want to leave?"

"I want to stay a few more days. Henry is making paella the day after tomorrow."

"You want to stay for the food?" I asked, turning around and kneeling naked in front of her.

"Here, we're like in a bubble, my love. You and me in a snow globe, you know what I mean? Who knows what will happen once we're on the plane, in Christchurch, in the United States? It will be different, for sure. Here, it's just the two of us."

"Are you afraid that returning to reality will separate us?"

"Yes."

"But we can't stay here indefinitely. You were only supposed to stay for two weeks."

"You're the big boss now. Could we stay here?"

"Abandon everything to live here, in Antarctica?"

"No rent, no bills. You officially run the base, and I... I'll take care of things."

"We can't stay here, Julia. Come on, let's be realistic. It would be liked enying reality and living in a utopia, locked away because it's cold outside."

"I know, Emily. But admit it, we would be happy."

"I admit it, yes. We would tear down the walls to redesign our little love nest."

"That's it. Make love to me now, I want you."

One question keeps me awake.

Where are the mercenaries?

They didn't come to eat; I haven't seen them anywhere. Since I couldn't track their movements, I don't know if they're here or at Scott. Whatever the reason for their presence, it's a bad sign. Julia is peacefully sleeping, half lying on top of me, preventing me from moving and going on a watch duty. Tomorrow morning, I'll go ask a couple of questions to the pilots and crew members. The night is short, but feeling Julia sleeping on me is pleasant. It's not called a night, nor a sleepless night, it's called a nap. I haven't slept enough, so I take advantage of the shower to help wake me up. The excuse for my appearance will be excessive use of the gym this morning to burn off the excess from last night. They won't have any trouble believing it and will smile, except when they see Julia in her yoga outfit. I think she did it on purpose; there's no yoga this morning. They respond to her smile as they watch her put sausages in an English muffin with scrambled eggs and take a hearty bite. Julia has just disgusted them while they are still digesting last night's meal.
