They talked for hours about everything from work to their personal lives. Alex was still the charming and handsome man that she had fallen in love with years ago. Megan couldn't help but feel a spark reigniting between them.

After they parted ways, Alex and Megan continued to talk with one another. Whether that was small texts or long phone calls, It was refreshing. Soon, Megan began to forget the heartbreak she felt from the divorce with Michael. She finally felt like she was moving on for the better.

With Alex, things were easy, they were friends. Friends who both had feelings, yet one just couldn't admit them. As time went on, they spent more time together. They even crossed the boundary of spending time at one another's apartments for small dinners and movies. Although, they remained platonic by never crossing the line of staying the night.

While Alex would have surely been fine with it, Megan wasn't sure she was ready.

As they cooked dinner together, Megan and Alex joked around with each other, trading playful jabs and teasing each other. Megan couldn't help but feel a sense of ease around Alex that she hadn't felt in a long time.

"I can't believe you still don't know how to properly chop garlic," Megan teased as she watched Alex fumble with a garlic clove.

"Well, excuse me, Gordon Ramsay," Alex replied, sticking his tongue out at her.

They both laughed and continued cooking, enjoying each other's company. Megan couldn't help but think how different things were now compared to how they were years ago when they were together.

As they sat down to eat, Megan couldn't help but feel grateful for the chance to reconnect with Alex. They talked about everything from work to their families to their favorite movies.

"I really missed this," Megan said, looking at Alex.

"I did too," Alex replied, smiling.

As they finished dinner, Megan began to feel a sense of nervousness. She knew that her feelings for Alex were still there, and she didn't know if she was ready to confront them.

Alex seemed to sense her discomfort and placed a hand on her arm.

"You know, Meg, I never stopped caring about you," he said softly.

Megan felt her heart skip a beat at his words.

"I know," she replied, looking away.

"Is everything okay?" Alex asked, concerned.

Megan took a deep breath and looked back at him.

"I don't know if I'm ready for this," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Alex's expression softened and he took her hand.

"I understand," he said, squeezing her hand gently. "Just know that I'll always be here for you, no matter what."

Megan felt a sense of comfort wash over her at his words, and she knew that no matter what happened between them, Alex would always be someone she could rely on.

As they cleaned up the kitchen, Megan couldn't help but feel conflicted. She knew that her heart was torn between the life she had built with Michael and the possibility of a future with Alex.

But for now, she decided to focus on rebuilding her life and taking things one day at a time. And she knew that no matter what, she would always have Alex as a friend and a support system.

After dinner, they took a walk along the riverbank and watched the sunset. It was a beautiful moment, and Megan felt her heart fill with warmth and hope, but also hesitation

They walked silently together, not making any eye contact. Megan slightly jumped as she felt Alex's had approach her own. She calmed at the feeling of his embrace.

"Alex, I don't know if I'm ready for this," she said hesitantly.

Alex understood her concerns, but he was willing to wait for her. "I'll be here for you, no matter what. Just know that I care about you, and I want to be a part of your life again." he said as they said their goodbyes and parted ways.

As Megan walked back to her apartment that night, she couldn't help but feel conflicted. She was still healing from her past relationship with Michael, and she wasn't sure if she was ready to move on just yet. But at the same time, she couldn't deny the feelings that she had for Alex.

Megan focused on rebuilding her life. She continued to work hard at her job and found comfort in spending time with her friends and family. Slowly but surely, she began to feel like herself again. Her and Alex had not talked since their walk on the riverbank, but she kept feeling like she wanted to reach.

She finally felt ready.

One day, while out with some friends, Megan ran into Alex. They exchanged pleasantries and caught up on each other's lives. Alex mentioned that he had moved closer to the city and was working on starting his own business.

Megan felt a twinge of excitement at the thought of Alex starting a new venture, and she couldn't help but feel a bit envious of his freedom to pursue his dreams. She had always felt like her life was on a pre-determined path, and the divorce had only reinforced that feeling.

Over the next few weeks, Megan found herself thinking more and more about Alex and their past together. She couldn't help but wonder what could have been if things had turned out differently. Eventually, she decided to reach out to Alex and see if he wanted to grab coffee and catch up.

Their coffee date turned into a long conversation about their past relationship and what had led them to where they were now. Megan felt like she was finally able to open up and be honest with someone about her fears and doubts.

As they talked, Megan realized that she didn't just have feelings for Alex. She loved Alex. She wasn't sure if it was just nostalgia or something more, but she knew that she wanted to explore those feelings further.

Alex seemed to feel the same way, and they decided to take things slow and see where it went. They started going on dates and spending more time together, and Megan felt like she was finally able to let go of the past and embrace the present.
