After the guys released me from the air tight group hugged, they all sat in a circle around me. "Who's up for ice cream?!" Carter yelled, breaking the silence. "Me!" All the guys yelled. I giggled at their silliness. I attempted to stand up, only to be hit with a sudden wave of pain. I fell onto the ground with a cry.
"Are you okay?" Ashton asked as he held my broken form in his arms. I sniffled, but nodded my head all the same. "I-I'm okay." I stuttered. I winced as Ashton and Reece helped me stand. Luckily, this time I didn't fall over. We all walked to Carter's truck and hopped in. Considering there were six of us though, I had to sit on Ashton's lap. Talk about awkward.
I listened to the guys joke around and tell stories on the way the the ice cream shop. Every once in awhile, Carter would hit a bump and I would wince, but other than that, I felt pretty good. I let my mind drift to what I would wear on my date with Ashton. Before I could fully plan my outfit, we turned into the parking lot of a small ice cream parlor and jumped out of the truck.
"Hello. What can I get you?" A young teenage boy said. He raked his eyes over me with a smirk and winked at me. "You could get your eyes off of my girl for starters." Ashton growled. My heart fluttered when he called me his girl. The boy's face went from flirty to terrified in a matter of seconds. "S-sorry. What w-would you l-like to order?" He asked nervously. After we ordered we sat down in a booth and began to dig into the frozen treat.
After I finished my ice cream, I watched the guys play around for a bit. I laughed when Mason tried to fit the rest of his ice cream cone in his mouth at once. I laughed so hard that I had hit my side on the wall. A cry escaped my lips as I held my ribs in pain.
"Abby, what's wrong?" Ashton questioned as he eyed me up and down, concern and worry lacing his eyes and voice. I shook my head as I bit my lip and tried to hold back my tears. "Tell me" He said gently as he caressed my cheek. "I-I hit my side on the wall." I whimpered. "Dude, I think she might have a broken rib."James added.
" Okay, we are going to the hospital." Ashton stated as he scooped me up in his arms. I buried my face in the crook of his neck in order to avoid people's stares. We got in the car and drove to the nearest hospital. Ashton sat me down in a chair and then went with Reece to go check me in. I sat in a ball in the chair and continued to whimper from the pain. " Don't worry Abby. You'll get better in no time." James said as he rubbed my back. "Yeah, we won't let anything hurt you." Mason added from beside me. I soon heard footsteps and what sounded the wheels approaching. "Just set her on this." A male voice said. I felt myself being picked up, only to be put down onto something warm and soft. I opened my eyes and saw that Ashton had placed me on a gurney and was holding my hand as a male nurse pushed me along the hallway.
We came to a room where Ashton picked me off of the gurney and placed me onto a hospital bed." A doctor should be with you shortly." The nurse said as he walked out. Mason, James, Carter, Reece, and Ashton surrounded my bed as we sat there in a comfortable silence. We all jumped when there was a knock at the door.
"Hello, I'm Dr. Coleman." A young looking doctor said as he walked into the room. "I heard that you were beaten up pretty badly. May I take a look." He asked with a friendly smile. He began to inspect every inch of my arms, legs, and face. "Do you boys mind stepping out so I can check her ribs?" He asked the guys. "It's o-okay. I w-want them to s-stay. They already s-saw when they b-bandaged me up e-earlier." I mumbled."Okay.This might hurt a little bit." He said as he lifted up my shirt and began applying pressure to my wounds. I cried out in pain and flinched away. "Sorry. According to this x-ray we took, you have to broken ribs a long with some bruising on a couple of the others. I'm going to get you a brace and then I will check you in for the night. I want to keep you here for observation." he stated. I nodded my head in response and he left the room. he came back a few minutes later with a brace in his hand. He gently secured it around me and left the room once more. I laid down on the bed and began to chat with the boys.
I jumped when the door suddenly slammed open and in walked....
