Arin, Faelwen, Elara, and Jorick woke early the next day, eager to begin their preparations for the siege. They donned their armor and weapons, then made their way down to the depot to meet with the other defenders.
As they walked through the city, they could see that the people of Thais were also preparing for the battle. They were fortifying their homes and businesses, gathering supplies and weapons, and doing everything they could to prepare for the coming attack.
As they approached, they could see Drogan and Zephyr waiting for them, their faces etched with concern. The defenders were busy organizing their supplies, checking their weapons, and discussing their battle plans.
Arin spotted the captain of the guard, a grizzled old veteran named Marcus. He approached the captain and saluted, "Captain, what is the situation?"
Marcus turned to face Arin, "We've received reports that the Orc hoard has been sighted just beyond the east gate. They'll be here soon, so we need to be ready."
Arin nodded, "Understood. What is our plan of attack?"
"We'll be sending out scouting parties to gather information on the Orcs and their movements," Marcus said. "Once we have a better idea of their numbers and tactics, we'll be able to mount a defense."
As they spoke, Faelwen spotted a group of travelers making their way through the depot. She recognized them as members of a local hunting guild and knew that they would be valuable allies in the coming battle.
She approached their leader, a gruff old man named Garrick, and introduced herself. "We're here to help defend Thais," she said. "Do you have any advice for us?"
Garrick looked her up and down, then nodded, "Aye, I do. The Orcs are tough, but they're slow. If you can keep your distance and hit them with ranged weapons, you'll have the advantage. And watch out for their spearmen; they're quick and deadly."
Faelwen nodded, grateful for the advice. "Thank you, we'll keep that in mind."
As the day wore on, the defenders continued to prepare for the siege. They organized their supplies, practiced their combat techniques, and gathered any information they could about the Orc hoard.
As Arin continued to gather information about the Orc hoard and the upcoming battle, he couldn't help but think about the Devil Helmet Quest. It was a well-known quest that many adventurers attempted, but few succeeded in completing. The quest was said to be incredibly dangerous, with many types of creatures guarding the temple where the helmet was rumored to be located.
Arin's curiosity got the best of him, and he decided to ask around the depot for more information. He spoke to a few experienced adventurers who had attempted the quest before, and they warned him of the dangers that lay ahead. They told him about the various creatures that he would have to face, including spiders, rotworms, orcs, minotaurs, and even dragons.
Despite the warnings, Arin couldn't shake the idea of obtaining the devil helmet and upgrading his equipment. He knew that time was of the essence, and they needed to act fast. They made their way to the depot to gather supplies for their journey. Faelwen headed to the market to purchase arrows, while Drogan went to the potion shop to stock up on mana and health potions. Zephyr stayed behind to create runes that would come in handy during the battle.
As they made their way back to the gates of Thais, Arin could see the Orc hoard in the distance. The sight of so many creatures was intimidating, but Arin knew they had to stay focused. The group made their way through the East gate and onto the battlefield. The air was thick with the sounds of clashing swords, the roars of Orcs, and the thud of arrows hitting their targets. Arin could feel his heart racing.
